Honestly, I don't think he'd have taken one if offered...

Expected $4M... $4.2M isn't really overpayment, and in another two years we'll probably get an even better rate for whatever his role is then.

Glad to have Fisher back!

He would have gotten 5 as a UFA.

Good signing. Wish it was 5 years, not 2, but good signing.

Yeah, it's super steep. A 20+ goal, 50 point center with a very strong 2-way game on a team friendly term for 4.2 million. If anyone really thinks that, they just don't understand the market, at all.

To the highest bidder, on a two year term in this market, Fisher could EASILY get 5.5+.

Yeah maybe from the islanders trying to reach the cap floor. It doesnt mean he is worth that much.

Have you seen the prices of UFAs? Matt Carle got 5.5 mil. Olli Jokinen got 4.5 mil. Denis Wideman got about 5.1 mil. Doan, in his old age, reportedly has 7+mil on the table.

A center of Fisher's caliber on the open market would get lapped up.

Im not saying some GM wouldn't throw stupid money at him, that happens every offseason. Theres a reason philly let Carle walk for that price, he wasnt worth it. All im saying is Fisher isnt worth 5+mil just because some GM would be willing to offer it.

You pay players for what they are, not what they were once, 8 or so years ago. Jokinen is older, slower, much worse defensively and MAYBE slightly better offensively and he got 4.5 per over two years. As I said before, anyone that thinks this is overpayment simply does not understand the current market.

Players are worth exactly what GMs are willing to pay them, no more, no less.

Ill note this comment for when someone complains about a contract not being worth it. ( i.e. Gomez, Wade Redden, Brian Campbell, J. Bouwmeester, etc.)....

Well, my comment doesn't apply at all to whether players live up to their contract or not, but whatever makes you feel good I guess.

Players are paid for what they do just before they sign a contract, not for 90 point seasons a decade ago, and certainly not for things they do after they've signed the contract (unless Marty McFly is a GM and I'm unaware). It's pretty simple really...

if fisher hit this free agency, maybe 5+... carle and jokinen got so much because after suter and parise... there was practically no one. jokinen has better stats offensively. id take fisher every day though.

Bobby Hull's Jets career started with a truly absurd $1m contract. That was for a legendary superstar. By this standard, everybody is overpaid.

The market changes over time. These things happen. Live with it.

Good deal for both sides. Fisher wants to stay in Nashville and was willing to take what he is making now for 2 more years. He could have gotten more if he waited longer or went UFA most likely but he didn't. Nice to see a player not asking for more then he is worth or handcuffing a team to a longer term deal when he's past 35.

Olli Jokinen scored more points than Fisher last year and has a VERY strong 2 way game as well. To boot he has 89, 91, and 71pts seasons under his belt. So he got 4.5 in this market. so when you compare that to Fishers 4.2 its very even, if Fisher got any more yes it would be an over payment. Its pretty simple really.....
