Toronto - St. Louis

Toronto gives:
Tim Connolly
Cody Franson

St. Louis gives:
Andy McDonald

Both centers are injury prone and FA at the end of next year.
Is it worth for the Blues to give up McDonalds potential to gain a solid D in Franson?

What do the Maple Leafs fans think?

I don't think Toronto is interested, I mean, meh. Doesn't really address a big need, sort of a lateral move. I'd give the same package + for Halak though. Connolly, Franson, Colborne?

Blues fans say no way. Look up the stats on how they do with and without McDonald.

Edit: And the Blues are already under the floor.

Not a Leafs or Blues fan, but didn't McDonald play mostly LW last year with the Blues? Not Center?

I'm just wondering how that might affect the proposal.

If I was a Blues fan I wouldn't like that.
If I was a Leafs fan I would love that.

I think he is an amazing playmaker plus he shoots Left.

So you can put him between Lupul and Kessel who both shoot right and it could be magic.

Second line would be beast... JVR, Grabo, CMac

Third line... Kadri, Bozak, Kulemin

What does being under the floor would have to do with it?

If anything... this trade would help because Franson is RFA and needs a new deal

I don't think you're doing a very good job of convincing Blues fans...

Heh... Andy McDonald leaving means Berglund and Steen get top 2 spots and get to shine. Thats a bonus.
Plus they solidify their top 4 D. Franson would work well with Shattenkirk.

It's not really a bonus.

They're not exactly getting great value for the player.

Just curious. When was the last time you watched the Blues play? Not trying to be rude, but you are making some very wrong assumptions.

Steen hasn't played for us at center at anytime in his tenior with the blues - but that may change this year. Backes and Berglund are our top 2 centers.

Jackman and Shattenkirk work very well as our 2nd pairing and wont be separate anytime soon. Franson isn't good enough to play against top line competition, so he wouldn't be a good fit for Pie. And most fans are very happy with our 3rd pairing.

Classic nickle for dime trade. Doesn't really help the Blues. You want McDonald - make a one for one offer.

No from the Leafs.

McDonald is one of my favourite players in the league but he is wearing down from all the injuries he has had to endure over the course of his career, he is also somewhat in decline.

I think we should give Connolly another shot at the #1 C spot between Lupul and Kessel and give them time to build chemistry which will help him rebound. If Connolly can stay healthy he > McDonald, then we are giving up our #5 D man as well...no thanks.

Ah yes!! The old 'you guys have plenty at that position, so essentially, it's a bonus for you for us to take this off your hands' fallacy.

With the inevitable "No...from OUR side" after everyone shoots it down!

This has all the makings of a classic thread!

Wowzers. You'd really throw in a borderline top 6 defensemen, an overpaid, way too soft 'second line center', and Colborne (really?) for Halak?

That's somethin.

Think you'd throw in Tyler Biggs if they added Pietrangelo?

I think you're confusing McDonald with... someone else.

Potential? Given Andy's age the majority of NHL watchers likely feel that he has shown you everything he has to give.

Having said that.. the Blues are an extremely solid team and I don't feel that this proposal does anything to increase their chances to win a championship.

I think he meant potential of a healthy season. Mcdonald puts up about a PPG the problem is he has had a few shortened seasons the last few years. People are seriously underrating Andy Mcdonald.
