Thanks. appreciate the information.

That's a solid deal for Pittsburgh but I'd only do it (if I were Dallas) if I was out of the playoffs at the trade deadline.

He's not Morrow in the physical department, but he is certainly not Satan or Sykora.
Kennedy is a small, unphysical player who doesn't help win wars of attrition. Morrow (if healthy) can.

Front net presence is important, but I don't see Morrow as that elite guy. His team's PP has generally been down towards the bottom the last 3 years. His Goals/60min of 5v4 time hovers around 2.0 g/60 (which is good), but so does TKs (when given PP time). TK has also been able to generate 2.4g/60 and 3.1g/60 in that area back in 2011 and 2010. If Morrow had a hidden talent in this area, wouldn't it show up in some measurable way? I still state that TK is not only marginally better but younger than Morrow.
You won't get an elite net-front presence for Kennedy.

As for the points per 60 minutes, using it to determine the more effective offensive player is flawed. Based on last season, it would suggest that Kennedy is a better 5 on 5 player than Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Teemu Selanne, and Bobby Ryan...and that's just on the Ducks. Anyone who actually believes that doesn't watch much hockey.

Tyler Kennedy isn't half the player Brenden Morrow is. That is why the Penguins add to the trade.

And these whole health concerns...it's not like TK has been durable his career either. But, for what it's worth, he's a great 3rd line stopgap for a Dallas team that needs to get younger. He would add nice depth to their team and it's at least something of a return for Morrow. The 2nd is the sweetener.

Not ready to give up on Morrow yet. I honestly think he will have a great year this year (if there is hockey this year)

Dallas says NO stating that Tyler Kennedy's nose is too much of a distraction for the rest of the team. Can someone break it so he looks more normal?

We kinda need a winger and have a log jam on D.

Neal for Goligoski? If you guys have too many defensemen we'll take back Niskanen too.

No gm in their right mind would deal Neal AND Niskanen for Goligoski

Kennedy's a better player than Morrow was last year, at half the salary, doesn't have the injury concerns Morrow does, and fits better in a 3rd line role than Morrow would for Dallas.

That's why there's no reason to add anything.

Putting aside the value...Jesus Christ that's bad. Who's our #1 after that deal? Paul ****ing Martin?

Brilliant.

I'd still make that trade today. Ignorance is bliss for some people, I guess.

The Pens need Letang WAY more than they need Benn. The same can be said for the Stars and Benn.

You would?

We flat out won. A forty goal scoring #1 winger and a #3-4 d-man for someone that was expandable.

A 40 goal winger when playing with the best player in the league. Neal didn't play like that in Dallas with Brad Richards and Loi Eriksson. Nisky really needed a change of scenery. Near the end of his time here he looked absolutely lost.

I'd still make that deal.

Neal was expendable and wouldn't produce like that on Dallas.

Niskanen was addition by subtraction. He's also a bottom pairing defender.

He played well enough to be a 3-4 for us.

That's pretty revealing of how bad your D is ATM. From what I saw, he's still at best a #5.

Niskanen was actually very reliable last season by any reasonable standard. Granted, he was playing bottom pairing minutes, so we don't know how he'd perform in a 2nd pairing role.

He seemed like a good #5 when I watched him.

Regardless, he was terrible when we traded him. Not sure what happened, but I was pretty glad he was traded.

That group seemed so promising, too. Niskanen, Grossmann, Fistric...

Yep. I'm not trying to argue against the Stars here...Neal has benefited tremendously from playing with an elite center (though he has the special skillset which allows that) and Niskanen needed a change of scenery. Dallas also needed a good offensive defenseman, and Gogs fits the bill.

That said, Pens fans are obviously happy with the deal too. It turned out about as well as we ever could have hoped.
