Provided the new CBA doesn't change things, I think we still have his rights for the next year, even though his CHL eligibility is complete. He can sign with any minor pro or European team he wishes, but no other NHL team can take him unless the Sharks decide to rescind their rights to him

I think.

I thought Moffie woud be ready to turn pro this season, but considering the logjam at D in Worceter and the team Michigan will be icing this season (including Merrill returning) it's no surprise he's staying for his senior year.

I believe he was used as Michigan's #1 d-man last year until Merrill returned, he should get a lot of ice time again this season in all situations.

I think Moffie's upside is as a #4/5/6 PMD - he actually reminds me a bit of Braun.

His father is the all-time goals leader (101). Sean might want to make his father proud and be the one to break it. If that's the case, let us hope that he breaks it his junior year though that'd require some serious hands.

34 goals per year? Yeah, that ain't gonna happen. But here's hoping.

I always assumed that Nieto was a Ducks fan based on his location, so I bet it was awkward being drafted being drafted by the sharks.

Guys guys guys. Hertl got an 8.0C from HF.

And Teravainen only got a 7.5C.

Obviously DW knew what he was doing.

I think they just feel sorry for San Jose's weak prospect pool. Also Radek Faksa with a 7.5C...

Well it's been said that Hertl outplayed Faksa during the World Juniors

Also some scouting reports

What the heck?

The big Czech forward has good quickness and agility when combined with his excellent hockey sense allows him to play at the higher and quicker speed necessary.

He does have quickness and agility. It's just his speed and unorthodox skating style that are notable. From what I've read, anyway.

At any rate, the rest of the grades from this past draft are as follows:

Daniel O'Regan: 7.0D
Chris Tierney: 7.0D
Colin Blackwell: 6.0D
Christophe Lalancette: 7.0D
Joakim Ryan: 7.0D
Clifford Watson: 6.5D

Jeez, DW really shot for the stars, I guess.

I agree with you on Hertl, his hockey sense makes up for a lot - but he needs to work on his skating, which he's talked about.

HF's prospect rankings are always so right on! Good to know ahead of time that there's little chance of anyone other than Hertl making any kind of impact in the NHL (and Blackwell was drafted in 2011).

Are you saying that it was a bad draft or what? You should know that we're gonna have to wait and see how they do.

No, that he went for players with higher upside but also higher risk. Usually we see him drafting future 4th liners in the 2nd round because they're sure bets to make the show.

I think it was a pretty good draft for DW. I especially like the Joakim Ryan pick. He has all the makings of another Demers/Braun type.

Blackwell wasn't from this last draft. He was from 2011.

Filthy hit on Justin Sefton in Omsk...

Love that he pops right up from that and attacks the dirt bag Dane.

THN's yearbook finally arrived in my mailbox today.

their top 10 Sharks prospects:

1) Hertl
2) Petrecki
3) Doherty
4) Hamilton
5) Nieto
6) Mashinter
7) Tierney
8) Abeltshauser
9) Sateri
10) Justin Daniels.

Justin freaking Daniels 10th is hilarious. Almost as much as the rest of the list order.

not that it matters since we rank 30th in the league in prospect pools, with a C- grade.

That's a pathetic ranking.

1. Hertl
2. Nieto
3. Stalock
4. Sateri
5. Kuraly
6. Demelo
7. Tenneyson
8. Oleksuk
9. Abeltshauser
10. Acolatse

(O'Regan, Stalberg, Ryan, and Moffie make up the next bunch, IMHO).
