The Kane goal really wasn't a fluke. If a puck didn't hit his chest or pads it generally went in. If he had to move his limbs it was likely not getting saved. He let in more than a few "wtf" goals that year; there's a reason nearly everyone got nervous whenever the puck crossed the red line...any shot on net had a good chance of randomly going in.
Well yea, he's sort of the definition of mediocrity. I just meant I don't expect him to allow shots along the goal line to end up in the back of the net on a regular basis.

That goal really was unimaginable; bad enough if it happened in a who-gives-a-damn game in Columbus in January, but the fact that that abomination won Chicago a cup...the mind reels.

I'd rather gargle dog drool for an hour than watch another goal like that.

ugh thats nasty lol I actually have three dogs that drool constantly ( 2 pyrenees and St. Bernard) and that thought is repulsive

Also I still am scared whenever a player brings the puck into our zone. I don't think I have ever felt comfortable when a opposing player has brought the puck into our zone now to think about it.

Last March, for the first time in ages, I was able to watch the other team shoot on our net without needing to breathe into a paper bag.

Keep dreaming. Bryzgolov is a ****** and a highly overpaid backup. At least leighton gets paid as a back up and will fill the role nicely. I predict bryzgolov will have a similar year as last year and play about 10 more games then leighton. He will fall apart in the playoffs ala Pittsburg series and leighton enters play a hell of a lot better.

im prolly Leights biggest fan here, and even i dont see that situation happening..

they will play Bryz for most of the season (barring injury, or even worse stats then last year)..

i just dont see any way Leights can win the starting role.. and it remains to be seen if he can stay healthy aswell..

previous 2 seasons he went down with injury.. so we'll see..

Leighton sucks. He likes country music - which is like a cherry shaped turd on top of a turd sundae.

Sucks so bad he saved our season on 2010. Without him, we don't even make the playoffs. He carried this team more than Bryz ever has.

I will agree he played well down the stretch but it's ridiculous to say he carried the team. The offense still had to score goals to win those games it's not like they were winning all the games 1-0. The D also played very well around him much better then when Boosh was in net it seemed. I believe he deserves credit where credit is due but nothing more.

Hooray. 15 games of that.

Or this:

Edit: Assuming he isn't waived after 8 games, that is.

I'm really hoping a trade for a real backup is in the works.

Shouldn't you be out investing in a season's worth of brown paper bags?...

Nah, shipping was too much. I'll just use the bags the clerk puts my overproof whiskey in before his games.

This is laughable.

I am laughing at you right now and I am confident that I am not the only one.

You probably could have taken the best amateur goaltender who posts on these boards and put them in net for that run and seen comparable results. Quite possibly better.

Bold by me, and that is what is laughable. The best amateur goaltender on these boards couldn't even make the NHL, let alone play at the level Leighton did in 2010.

There's some very good D1 goalies who read this board...that's about the level Leighton is at.

I hate Leighton as much as the next guy, but AHL All-Star goalie >>>>>D1 goalie

For as bad as he is, the team will be able to get by with him playing 15 games. Problem is, you need a backup that can come in and keep the team afloat if the starter goes down for a significant period of time.

Leighton has proven that he can't do that. He's proven that hes a bad NHL goaltender. Period. Anyone saying otherwise has a learning disability or doesn't have eyes.

If Bryz goes down this season, the Flyers won't make the playoffs.

Leighton's 2009-10 record for us : 16-5-2 2.48 GAA and .920 sv pct.

Damn, I wish he was better

He has? If anything, he's proven the opposite. Unfortunately he let in some awful goals on a stage that he's not made for and everyone feels that overwrites what he accomplished in the regular season. It's a tad bit sensationalistic.

I'm quite sure the Flyers WOULDN'T have made the playoffs if it wasn't for Leighton. If I recall, he came in during the West Coast trip that season, when the team couldnt score ****ing goals. Leights kept every game close, whether we won it or lost it, he gave them a chance to win.

Now as a preface, and I've said this dozens of times...the defense played at a ridiculous level with Leighton behind them, and I truly believe BECAUSE he was behind them. I've never seen defense like the Flyers played in that last 1/3rd of the season. But Leights stopped the pucks he needed to stop to allow the team to succeed...until the Final.
