Another reason why Neuvirth is underrated here is because of Holtby's playoff performance... His value is similar to what Varlamov had a year ago.

Would rather go with Reimer. Neuvirth is overrated and unproven and Reimer should return to form.

Huh?

You have the goalies switched. Reimer is overrated and unproven, and Neuvirth will return to form after an up and down sophomore slump season.

In before counterargument mentioning Steve Mason.

Honestly, neither of them are guys I'd pounce on if I wanted a sure thing.

Not really, simply because there isn't a huge market for goalies. Right now his value is pretty low, which is why if I were Washington I wouldn't think of trading him right now. Could get a nice price from a team like Chicago at the deadline, but right now neuvrith just isn't worth that much.

Neuvirth is far from proven. He's in the same position Crawford is in. He has to prove he can be more than average. Just because he was in goal for a playoff series win doesn't mean anything. Just about any NHL goalie could have stepped in and won that series against the terrible offensive Rangers. Neuvirth is a dime a dozen goalie. He won't fetch anything near what Varlamov did. Regardless of Varlamov's injuries. He was the much more talented goalie of the two.

As a Caps fan I agree that Varly is the better prospect, but I disagree that the gap is that big. Varly went for #1 and a #2 - I think Neuvy would fetch a #1 outside the top 10 or some combination that is roughly equivalent....

Neuvirth is young, has great fundamentals and is going to be a good, reliable goalie from a long time. Having said that, I agree that he doesn't have a ton of value. There are just way too many other young goalies out there with more potential. Goalie is a position where you swing for the fences and go for the high risk/high reward prospects. Neuvirth isn't ever going to be a perennial All Star. He also won't fail. He's just going to be decent.

Pretty cocky from a backup, mediocre and sieve goalie.

That article makes Neuvirth look like a tool. You never say something like that about your goaltending partner. Especially when the kid did more in 14 games then Neuvirth his entire career. Give your head a shake Neuvirth. You have to give Michal credit tho, it takes some balls to say that.

I don't see anything wrong with what he said, it's all absolutely true. He's been screwed over in a system where young guys don't get a fair chance against veterans. Kolzig leaves, maybe he'll get some playing time next year, nope they sign Theodore. Theodore is gone, he still has to play backup to Varly. Varly is traded and it looks like Neuvy is finally the starter, then they go out and sign Vokoun. Now for once he is the older goalie with the more experience and Holtby is stuck in the same situation as Neuvirth was. He also said Holtby is good but not as good as the others, and at this point in Holtby's career that is definitely true. Maybe he shouldn't have said it but I'm sure it was just frustration building up in him and he wanted to let it out.

He had more to say too...

I don't really find it to be all that offensive, but he just put a lot of scrutiny on himself. Definitely brutally honest about locker room stuff which is serious borderline violation of the code.

Yet your team still managed to make him look like a prime Patrick Roy two seasons ago.
