I doubt it,this team is improperly built to win a cup.

Unlike almost all of the other teams in the East we still don't have the elite core.We have missed the last 4 years with only Reilly to show for it.We have loaded up on run of the mill depth players. We lack a star center and a dominant goalie. As the leafs we are stuck in a trap of our own design. We refuse to tank properly and get star players like Stamkos,Crosby etc and yet we are never good enough to make the playoffs.Every year we improve just enough to stay outside the lottery while accomplishing nothing. With the Kessel trade,Burke got off on the wrong foot and hasn't recovered.

We keep using past Leaf teams as a barometer for success. What we need to do is look at our competetion.Have we kept up? No! Do we have a strong core of elite young guys to build around? No! Burke is trying to trade his way into the finals and he is finding it a tough grind. Barring some major trades (i.e Getzlaf) there is no way a core of Kessel,Phaneuff,Reimer wins a cup....ever.

Kadri would already make the roster this year.
I don't know, prospect analysis indicates that most of the leafs young talent, althougheven on all position lacks blue chip prospects in any position. I don;t think you can easily win with that.

Just in time for the next lockout, shortened season with an asterisk beside it.

I think the OP just simulated forward half a decade on NHL 12 to a point where he perfectly constructed a roster out of the Leafs prospects and was a perennial cup contender. I don't blame him. That's fun as hell to do. But this thread was good for the lolz & figured was fitting to make my first post, because this was just too funny to resist.

That's outstanding for a 10 year old! Mark my words, the 2020 draft is going to be a beaut, and if the leafs can stockpile the picks for that draft, the cup is easily ours in 2026.

Of course within 5 years, our roster will be quite different and I'm assuming a lot of players would be gone because a lot of guys that are prospects now will be full time NHLers. I can't wait to see the results. I hope Burke doesn't get desperate and changes his pace by trading away assets to just make the playoffs.
Great post! Look down the line up and this has future cup written all over it. There's nothing delusional about this; anyone with good hockey sense can see it.

You could say that about every team in the league.
