This definitely sets the low point for RNH and Eberle. RNH was far more effective than Hall in their first seasons and Eberle has been the best.

Cap hit's a bit high but they bought out quite a few UFA years. Pretty much paying for potential which he has shown.

Also think his injury concerns are a little overblown. I can probably bank on him not getting his face stepped on with a skate next year.

but when he signed the extension he was not injury prone

with your logic, every contract extension is dumb since everyone potentially has the chance to become injury prone

I don't understand what was the rush with this contract extension. They could've just waited to see how he does next season, if he does well you glady pay him what he got now, if he doesn't (and if he has more injuries) you get a little bit of leverage that helps you lower his cap hit.

IMHO he doesn't deserve this contract based on his track record.

His points/game speaks for itself - he's almost at (if not already at) the same scoring paces of guys like Tavares and Skinner. I don't mind the deal. It's just a risk given his injury troubles.

To me he's the worst of the big-3 (and probably worst of the big-4), so my only worry is that guys like Eberle/RNH will ask for 6.5 when it's time for their pay day.
do you watch the team when he's not in the line-up?
he led the team in shots despite only playing 61 games!

that alone should tell you how much he means to this team..IMO stats don't tell the whole story

Should be getting mad at Rutherford for the Skiner contract. That set the bar for this.

Yeah and in November, Phil Kessel was on pace for like 90 goals. What the heck are you doing projecting his season after the first month of play?

I still feel like Hall and Eberle will end up signing the same contract but maybe that's just me being a hopeful Oilers fan.

Reread what he said. He's not basing it off just the month of November.

Hall is overrated and will be/is the worst of the big 4, and is not worth this contract.

And now, I will be stoned to death by Oiler fans

It makes sense when you look at the potential breakdown:

$4.5M
$5.0M
$5.5M
$6.0M
$6.5M
$7.0M
$7.5M

When you break it down that way, the extra year he signed on for over Skinner (which is a UFA year) is worth $7.5M. Take that out of the contract and the cap hit for 6 years is $5.75M which is essentially the same as what Skinner signed for.

The extra money to Hall is entirely based on the extra year of unrestricted free agency this contract buys.

Sorry for yelling, but it needed to be said.
You need to review the definition of injury prone. Injury prone is the propensity (frequency) of injuries you sustain. Being laid low for an extended period by a singular injury =/= injury prone.

If Doug Jarvis had gotten mauled by a bear and lost a leg after 800 consecutive games, he wouldn't be classified as "injury prone" just cause he missed the rest of his career.

Injury prone definition for you :

Having the tendency of becoming injured.

A freak accident =/= tendency of becoming injured.. If you want to write off Hall's skate to the head injury, then prongers is written off as well.

However, the nagging shoulder injuries make him injury prone

That would make him injured, not injury prone.

And to put the original comment into context, you have to look at it from the POV of when he signed his extension with Philly. Not at the present time. HTH.

Eberle put up some ridiculous numbers last season. I really like the kid and I think he has playoff performer written all over him. But to expect him to continue season after season with a shooting percentage above 15% might be a little unrealistic.

IMHO he doesn't deserve this contract based on his track record.
If Hall plays a full season like he did from November until his season ended, he'd be looking at 6.5M+...cause in that 40-50 game stretch he was one of the best goal scorers in the league(and he didn't spend a lot of time with Eberle and RNH).

People who think he doesn't deserve this contract simply weren't watching the Oilers.

This one is the same timing and you can say Hall's had injuries but not a concussion and he's a 1st pick plus it buys three rather than two yrs of UFA. It's not a bargain or anything but this one seems more fair and the timing is fine.
So they are both at identical points in their careers, yet the timing of Skinner's was a problem but the timing of Hall's is fine?

Anyhow, I think the contract is fine for Edmonton. They have a key, young guy tied up for 8 more years (this year + 7).

No, like I said I'm a big fan. I just don't see the need for a salary and term that high. No one has ever been paid that much money proving so little. 5M should have done it easy.

I like the deal. Cap hit is 500 k more then what it should be, but its not like that's gonna break the Oilers bank. The term is perfect imo. This is what HF does not seem to understand about this kid, he is the Franchise Player for Edmonton, Not Eberle, Not Nuge, but its Hall, and i'm sure most Oiler fans would agree.

having the same PPG as Tavares did in his first 2 years dictates that yes, he did deserve this contract
