He's overpaid now but I think that in a couple of years this will look like a very good signing. To me, this is a bit of a no brainer. You get a chance to lock up one of your number one overall picks long term then you take it. Sure there's a risk that he doesn't perform up to the contract but that's a pretty low risk and worst case he's a little overpaid. Best case you've locked up one of your key guys going forward and he outperforms that contract in a couple of years. I like the signing.

4 years @ $4m per would have made for sense

hopefully he uses this money to get a face translant....he's got a face only a mother could love

he led the team in shots despite only playing 61 games!

that alone should tell you how much he means to this team..IMO stats don't tell the whole story
You say stats don't tell the whole story and then use a stat to defend your position.

Jeff Carter consistently led the Flyers in SOG, I wouldn't say he was ever the best Flyer despite that.

Bottom line right here.

Bunch of clueless armchair GMs who like to hear themselves talk. (err, post)

We'd like to, but he's always injured.

Yeah, didn't know when he signed but I saw that other season before it so I knew I was safe. Edited the correct amount.

Good deal, but the 7 years kinda makes me nervous given his injury past and luck so far in playing a full season.

People who think he doesn't deserve this contract simply weren't watching the Oilers.
And what if he gets injured like he did this past season and the one before?

Like I said before if he has a great season next year you gladly pay him 6mil, or maybe even a little bit more. There was no reason to rush this extension.

In his first 2 years, Tavares missed 3 games total.

In his first 2 years, Hall missed 38.

Easier to put a higher PPG total when you are missing almost a quarter of your time in the NHL

You don't undercut the leader of the rebuild.
Good deal. I wanted 6 mil a year, so things are moving on schedule.

I'm saying the team is different with him in the line-up and that his shot total plays a huge part in that (although not the whole story)

he backs off defenders better than anyone on the team with his speed

Way to much for a guy that has 2 incomplete seasons under his belt even if they were pretty good seasons overall.

Not trying to discredit Skinner who's also fantastic but Skinner plays a different game than Hall. I'm a Canes fan and I find that when Skinner isn't scoring, he's not very effective. On the other hand, when Hall isn't scoring, he's doing many many other things and is still making an impact on the ice.

You're saying a team is better with Hall in the line up rather than a call up?

Interesting..

In two years this deal will look unreal. So happy we locked him up.

He'll be worth it if he can stay healthy and manage to play 80+ games, but I'm not sure Hall will ever be able to play a complete season given his play style.

Yeah, that's it. It couldn't be because they're clueless about Hall and what he brings to the Oilers. Try again.

I wonder if it's the same thing with the Flyers and Grioux in the line-up instead of a call-up.....
