Eberle extension upcoming?

Would expect Eberle deal to be done shortly. Likely same money, not sure if term will be the same. Perhaps shorter. #

Wouldn't 5 years take him up to his final RFA year? I'll say they do that, and then lock him up before he turns 27.

It wouldnt.
New deal kicks in after 3rd NHL season. It is age 27 or 7 years of NHL. So the new deal would have to be 3/4 years to keep him a RFA.

Also, If Ebs is not burning any UFA years he wont be making anything close to 6M.

I think this one will be longer, 10 years at 6.5 Million?

Maybe a hint?

doubt he goes over the 6M bar.

I hope its a short deal. Not really a big fan of rewarding extensions after a breakout season. EDM has been Horcoff'd too many times.

Both of them signing for 6 million makes it a whole lot easier for the Oilers cap management going forward. Hopefully RNH signs a similar deal next summer.

I hope you're right, but he's proven a lot more than Hall has so far.

He has proven that unlike Gagner, most players break out after a year or 2 of NHL. Hall has yet to break out but is already as good.

I'd rather have Eberle than Hall.

But I'd imagine they get the exact same deals.

Jordan Eberle on FB:
Looks like I could be signing same kind of deal Hall signed in the next few weeks. I wanna build a strong team here in Edmonton and hopefully win many championships in years to come.

Looks like he will be signed shortly.

But you have to understand the verbage from the org. has always indicated Hall is the franchise guy, the leader. Hall's ppg is virtually identical to Tavares' first two seasons, and he is obviously the younger of the two. And Eberle actually didn't have that much better of a ppg than Hall did last year, despite being 2 years older. I could see the same amount, but i won't be for more. Hall's deal is over 7 seasons, so he's getting paid for what he's projected to be a ppg+ player. Eberle won't get paid more because it would insinuate he's going to be even better than Hall's projection. I love Eberle but apart from the scoring stats i would argue Hall is currently the better player.

Eberle is clearly an outlier and unfair comparison for most players to be held up to. Eberle was 15th in points and goals, and 28th in assists at 21 Eberle is not an example of what's typical.

I think if Eberle is going to do 6M, the term will be longer. I think it's more likely that he does a 4M contract that takes him to RFA.

I don't think it's a great idea to have them both become UFAs at the same time. Eberle will likely get a 6 year deal for the same AAV.

I think worrying about them being UFAs at the same time (8 years from now) is just overthinking the situation. Sign him the same contract, you're basically signing the team over to them already. Provides a framework for RNH in a year.

I'll predict either same contract or 5.25 per over 8 years. They'll end up making the same amount of money over the deal somehow.

Of Edmonton's impressive group of young forwards, Eberle is the one I'd lock up longterm first. Kid is a serious talent.
