Maroon-Bonino-Palmieri

Heres what I think will realistically happen.

Palmieri-Getzlaf-Perry
Ryan-Bonino/Holland-Selanne
Winnik-Koivu-DSP
Beleskey-Bonino/McMillan-Cogliano
Staubitz

Defense

Beauchemin-Fowler
Sbisa-Allen
Lydman-Souray
Cogliano as the 2nd line center makes me wince. :/

At least thats what I call rolling four lines. Could work.
i completely agree Cogliano-Koivu-Winnik is a great third line more like a 2b in my opinion for us because they can shut down and score

I saw Cogliano score a hat trick last year.... If he could just replicate that a few times, I think he could get 30 goals 40 assists 100 points

Wait, what? 30 goals, 40 assists is 100 points? No. Cogliano is not going to approach a point per game. He'll be lucky to ever hit 50 points again, without being carried by Getzlaf and Perry. Cogs just isn't much of an offensive talent, and even his hat trick is an example of this, considering how flukey it was. His defensive game is his strength.

Static is right. The offense on that 3rd line is pretty negligible, and as a shutdown line it won't be that impressive either(not enough size). It would be decent, but against any top talents they'll probably get steamrolled.

For what its worth, with the new gameplay skating engine he should at least put up 100 points in NHL13.

Yeah, I'm with you on that one. I was thinking that they might try Holland at wing, while Bonino auditions for the 2C spot. Get him some NHL experience, in the top 9, while he waits for an opportunity - assuming he doesn't win a job out of camp, obviously.

Hey folks, leaf fan coming in peace.

In the boredom of the depths of summer and looming lockout, I am looking to gather some info on how Carlyle's team is going to shape up. I'm mostly looking to study some past stats to see how he utilizes certain players to best figure out what to expect this year with the leafs.

I am going to start with the playoffs where you guys won the cup as I'd imagine that's a perfect example of a well oiled Carlyle machine. Can someone give me a recap of the lineup during that playoff run? I'd help a lot with looking at the stats.

Cheers

Marchant filled in a lot on the top line when Kunitz was injured/ineffective. Also, May would rotate with Penner every now and then. The 4th line as a whole saw basically no ice time at all.

Its not ideal, but it really wouldnt surprise me if it was tried. Cant say I watched much of Cogliano as an Oiler, but from what the more intelligent Oiler fans said was that he was better as a center. If Bonino doesnt work out, which is quite possible, than Cogs could slot in there. Yeah he wasnt great there last season, but we expect bounceback seasons from pretty much everyone on the roster so why not Cogliano as well.

I think Bonino, Holland, Cogliano and Koivu will all get a chance centering the second line, unless one of the first two sticks early.

If NHL started tomorrow, what would the lineup look like? Some of the prospects have been very impressive in the AHL so far.

DSP-Getzlaf-Perry
Ryan-Holland-Palmieri
Cogliano-Koivu-Selänne
Winnik-Bonino-Beleskey
Staubitz

Beauchemin-Fowler
Sbisa-Allen
Lydman-Souray/Vatanen/Lindholm

Hiller
Fasth

Some of you probably won't like it that I'm pairing Selänne with Koivu but considering how good Holland and Palmieri have been together in AHL I would like to see if they could bring it to NHL. I don't think that either have anything left to proof in AHL.

Left wing is the hardest position to do, DSP could be Penner 2.0 but is he yet? Does Ryan play his best game when he isn't playing with GP? Should Cogliano be with old guys to make an incredibly fast line or should he be with Holland and Palmieri to cover their defensive mistakes? Where does the new guy Winnik fit? When will Staubitz play? Offence could very well be:

Ryan-Getzlaf-Perry
Cogliano-Holland-Palmieri
Winnik-Koivu-Selänne
DSP-Bonino-Beleskey
Staubitz

Thinking about the 1st line, there are really just two guys I could see playing there, DSP or Ryan. Etem isn't ready for NHL yet and Palmieri can't play left wing. Winnik and Cogliano just don't fit IMO.

Defence is easier than offence, Fowler and Beauchemin is the top pairing, Sbisa is on the 2nd with Allen or Souray, who fits the best and "leftovers" are the 3rd pairing. Vatanen or Lindholm are the only ones who could break in, and it's pretty hard to say which one could. Vatanen is older and has played against men but he still seems to have some troubles, I would like to see him with Lydman who could look after him and maybe form a same kind of team like Lydman and Visnovsky had. Lindholm seems to be doing good too, very mature considering that he's what 18? Would it be too soon for him? They could both a chance to make it and see if either workout.

Thoughts?

Is there really any evidence to Palmieri not being able to play LW? Regardless, I agree that Holland and Palmieri should stick together to begin with.

x - Getzlaf - Perry
x - Koivu - Selanne
x - Holland - Palmieri
x - Bonino - x

Is what I would have expected, even though BB previously stated that Koivu would be the 3rd line center. I hope Caputi gets an NHL contract. In case of injuries, I'd like to see him tested with Holland/Palmieri or Getzlaf/Perry.

Palmieri plays RW in Norfolk but yesterday he made a lot of plays from the left side, even his goal. Not sure if he could play well with Getz and Perry, though.

I'm curious, based on Bonino actually performing in the NHL last year and Koivu not actually being dead, why everyone thinks Holland will immediately be given the 2C instead of having to prove himself on a lower line.

^ this.

I doubt Holly can get anything mor than 4C at this point. With Beleskey and Staubitz, he should look fine

not much difference between our 2nd and 3rd lines at this point...just semantics.

So you're saying that DSP = Selanne? That seems to be a pretty big difference to me........

Also, you miss the point. Holland hasn't proven anything over Bonino - Bonino put up identical production in the AHL, AND performed in the NHL last year - all Holland has earned so far is the 4th line, and to be honest Winnik is a better choice there.
