I have no faith in anything this league does. One, two, or even a three year lockout wouldn't surprise me. All of the great things done over the last 6 years just erased.
I think the league would have to fold before it could pull off a 3-year lockout, but I get your sentiment. I have no faith in the league either. The owners are mostly to blame, with Bettman as their puppet, but the players union has demonstrated a level of ineptitude that deserves some criticism as well. In the end it's just the wrong combination of people involved if you're hoping for the fans to be high on the priority list. I never thought I'd consider 'unfollowing' the NHL, but the they are providing some serious taunts that are pushing me in that direction.
Maybe I can get CenterIce for half price this year if they only play 50 games...

I prefer they play all 82 games (on time) or not at all.
If the season is canceled, they can work on some of the other issues like realignment, suspensions, goal reviews, front-loaded contracts etc. I may be less interested in the NHL when they come back, but I don't want to see a half-assed season.
I love how everyone blindly blames Bettman. There's the owners and the players. Bettman is the puppet for the owners while Fehr is the puppet for the players. Don't blame these two guys, blame the players and owners.
Yes because Donald Fehr was involved with the previous two lockouts.
Just got back from the rink, skated with Severyn for a bit. I asked him if we'll have a season this year, he says that he talked with Nieuwendyk and that there won't be games until at least December.

Yikes. Here's hoping they work it out for January 1st.

If they are not back at the very start of December that pretty much cancels 24/7. Which while not nearly as important as just having hockey in general, really was something I was looking forward to though.

Reason: Typo on month

Meant December, but they have to be playing games for them to do it. I would guess it really has to be earlier, maybe November 1st as a drop dead date by HBO, curious to see what they think on it. But guessing they don't just show up and need to know by a certain time period before they pull the plug. By the way HBO almost didn't pick this season up anyway, so an NHL lockout likely kills this for good which is upsetting as I really enjoy it every year, part of the reason I am so excited to watch the Wings on it.

Same here. I was really looking forward to seeing the Wings on 24/7. I thoroughly enjoyed the previous two incarnations. I'm pretty sure if this one is cancelled, you can kiss the NHL/HBO partnership goodbye.

The Mayans were right. 2012 is the end of the world.
Man until now I have been taking the whole issue lightly but it seems certain...
Sad the fanatics like (us) who wait for each game will suffer the most. I guess I'll see you guys at the Plymouth Whalers board....

Man, I so under appreciated having the Whalers when I lived five mins away from Compuware - would kill to have a legit Junior team in Chicago. There is the Steel in the USHL, but that is almost at O'Hare, and can't get there by public transportation.
