Despite following a standout rookie NHL season with some well-earned down time, Couturier put his body through a lot of offseason training. Frequent trips to a Drummondville gym led to Couturier adding five pounds of muscle onto his body. Last season, he was a borderline-skinny 199 pounds. He’s now a sturdy 204 and looks 220. Meantime, he signed up for a few 1-on-1 power-skating sessions in an attempt to improve a part of his game already considered a strength.
Quote:
A goal this coming season, Couturier maintains, is to improve upon his 13 goals and 27 points without sacrificing anything that already has earned him a reputation as an elite shutdown center, which is pretty darned impressive for someone of his age and short NHL resume.
Ok... Five pounds of muscle is a lot... Especially for a nineteen year old.
Couturier is one of my favorite Flyers, and I can't imagine him having a sophomore slump. It's not like he had a high point total last season where he's felt pressure to repeat. The guys hockey IQ is just so high.
this is the best way to put on weight/muscle, nice and slow. putting on too much too fast can really affect your skating (commonly known as the Luke Schenn syndrome).
Good, I'm glad he didn't put too much on. 5 pounds doesn't sound like a lot but it's better than packing on a lot, which is what Kadri did a couple of summers ago and it slowed him down.
No one raged. It's just that he can't magically put weight on. His body is not built for it.
I sort of agree..guy is wirey so he needs to use that to his advantage which he did last year by going to the net more and recovering the garbage.
If we had gotten Weber with his big shot ..then Simmonds IMO would be assured a repeat performance from last year provided he stays away from the finesse which is def not him. I still think he can pack some LBS ...

The thing is people have Simmonds pencilled in as a power forward a la Hartnell. For that role, u need at least 210 lbs, a long way from his current 185.

That's the game he plays and excels at. Struggles with the finesse game. Who cares how big he is?
In a couple seasons Coots will be neck and neck with G for the best player on the team. We all know about his D and Last season he showed flashes of having a real nice accurate shot.
Everyone can lose and put on weight. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.
If we are talking about any kind of weight, then sure. But an athlete at some point maxes out his or her frame with so called "good weight". Some people are different. Personally I don't have a problem losing or gaining weight, but a buddy of mine, who I played college ball with, could never seem to get his weight to stay above 160. No matter what he ate, what he drank, what supplements he took he couldn't eclipse 160. He worked out like crazy too and was pound for pound the strongest kid on the team. Point being, everyone's body is different and everyone's body handles weight differently.

Sounds like too much exercise, not enough protein.

Nothing story. Tell him to drink more milk. I can put on five pounds in a month of lifting three times a week.
Moooooore miiiiilk, Sean. More. Now.
It's not easy to put on 5 pounds of muscle. Especially only working out 3 times a week. Thats only 12 workouts lol. You may have been kidding, but 5 pounds of muscle is big progress.
