Isn't Franzen signed for something like 10+ years?

That's not happening. Henrique is not moving, and the Devils are high on Merrill. Maybe the Ducks won't settle for less, but that's massive overpayment from the Devils' point of view.

Yes, of course, but unless Feaster loses his mind, the price will be too high for it to be a reasonable possibility.

I would definitely take Franzen, but as with Iginla, I fear the price that Detroit would ask in return.

He did because Elias and Sykora was here. If Elias returns, Zidlicky will probably return as well, unless the Devils want to part ways to give other players a shot.

Obviously I'm no Red Wings fan, but I think Franzen would come cheaper than Iginla would.

Zibanejad not only isn't an over-payment, but he's not even worth AL yet.

Why the Devils didn't resign Petr Sykora, he was relatively cheap and put around 20 goals and 45 points last year ?

I will answer my question probably by saying that he was pretty invisible in the playoffs, am I right ?

Who knows.

Probably a problem with term and/or salary. If the Devils sign Sykora, then they don't adequately give guys like Butler or Tedenby their shot at making the roster. Maybe, maybe, they are planning on having Sykora come to camp again, and then decide from there. Last year, you could tell he wasn't the same player he was in his heyday. Elias and Zubrus often carried him, but he was still a reliable source of scoring, his shot obviously didn't wear down with age.

Sykora probably doesn't want to play elsewhere, Elias and Zidlicky are his two best friends. I'm not too sure what happened, they both publicly stated mutual interest, Sykora to return and Lou to retain him.

Besides his shot AND paired with Elias and only Elias, Sykie is useless to Pete De Boer. He really started to show his age near the end of regular season also.

What a season for a try-out though.

I have a gut feeling he gets another tryout and Lou and DeBoer will be able to gauge what he brings compared to Butler or Tedenby. Thing is, I can see Sykora playing on the third line, but I can't see Butler or Tedenby doing that.

Sykora only succeeds under certain conditions. That condition is patrik Elias.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

However, I will say Sykora-Henrique-Zubrus was a pretty damn good line for us when they played together.

Untouchable.

Unless you want to replace Ryan with Getzlaf? No? Didn't think so.

82 games and 2nd line minutes caught up to him.
His shot is still pretty lethal, but his legs show all the wear and tear of a 36 year old.

He needs less games and less minutes to be effective all year long.
I'm on board for splitting time between Tedenby, Butler and Sykora over the 2nd and 3rd lines... as they all need significant defensive help from their linemates.

Agreed. I know many other Devils fans see it differently, but I think Sykora needs to prove how much he has left in the tank. Just like last season.
Sure, he scored well and above what was expected of him at the beginning of the season... but for an older team, he's the only one who truly showed his age by the time the playoffs rolled around.

And, let me also chime in and ask how much for Franzen and where do I sign?

If New Jersey wanted to have Zibanejad and not have Larsson, they would have passed on Larsson at #4 and taken Zibanejad instead.

I think Sykora might be Lou's backup plan still. If he can't pull off a trade for a top 6 forward, he'll just re-sign Sykora and be done with it.
