20 Years Of Thunder: The Greatest Figures In Lightning History - #1

I got the idea from www.20yearsofthunder.com - let's vote for the greatest figures in Tampa Bay Lightning history!

Who's your #1? Who should I add next?

I was debating between Espo and Marty, but gotta go with the best player in Lightning history.

That was tough...Went with Marty, but it was close with him and Espo.

I picked Andreychuck. Espo brought the game to Tampa, and Marty is my favorite player and the heart & soul of the team but it was Andreychuck who pushed the team to the next level.

Put Anton But on next.

Or Jeff Vinik and Bill Davidson, whatever.

Esposito. I have a feeling he did more to keep the team here than will ever be known.

Gotta be Esposito. With Phil we alway knew we wouldn't end up like Atlanta, no matter what kind of crap was being shoveled, off or on the ice.

Espo. He created the Lightning and laid out the groundwork. He did everything he could to make us great and keep us here. Without some of his contributions as GM, we couldn't have won a cup. Nobody cares more about this franchise than him.

Pretty easy choice for me, without Espo there isn't a team in Tampa.

No Esposito = no Lightning.

No one else matters because of that.

There was another group bidding on the Tampa Bay expansion team. Peter Karmanos' group, before he bought the Whalers and moved them to Carolina.

15-20 years from now, people will be making comparisons of players to be the next "Marty St. Louis". He has given this organization credibility in a variety of ways. When he retires, #26 will be the first number we retire in Tampa Bay, and rightfully so.
