KHL wants to buy planes

Makes sense. That's a huge investment though. We are talking about 50 to 80 million for a brand new Boeing 737 or Airbus A320. Brand new An-148 or Sukhoi Superjets are around 25 to 30 million and could probably be bought at a good discount if you are gonna buy 30 of them domestically. That's probably the way to go.

First plane does not count towards a cap hit. Second does. Each Russian team is limited to 5 foreign made airplanes. Also 50% of the pilots being used must be Russian. Foreign KHL teams are exempt from this.

Vityaz is already in talks with two F-16 fighter bombers for next season.

I think this is a great idea. I've always thought the best idea would be to buy a cargo jet and convert it into a multi-purpose jet with a nice passenger cabin up front while retaining enough room in the back to have the team bus,team equipment transport and some personal vehicles. This way the team can be ready to roll the second that it touches down.

Plus maintenance, storage etc.

I'm no expert but this seems like a HUGE expenditure. Hopefully they can pull it off.

You would be looking at something like this

If you're serious:
1. There's no way any cargo plane would be re-certified to carry passengers, without VERY extensive testing
2. Carrying bus and cars around would burn insane amounts of fuel for absolutely no reason
3. Insurance costs through the roof
4. Noise in Cargo planes is again, through the roof
5. Very limited number of airports due to landing, takeoff distances, support facilities.

I could keep going . So maybe not THE BEST Idea, but it's a nice dream!

They don't need to buy planes, they can lease them from another airliner for the season and return them in the offseason.
