How do we get the attention of Detroit fans? They seem to ignore this thread, but they probably know we are calling for them. Can someone put an octapus in the title or something?
Why do they need a bargain contract? -we have plenty of cap space -And I am not opposed to getting gionta back, whom is not on a bargain contract
Because although they went to the SCF last season and added that additional revenue, the team still lost money. It's the reason why their star player wasn't resigned. Vanderbeek has two years to restructure his debt to make his creditors happy. Running a team in the negative isn't going to help balance his organizations finances, nor help him keep his costs low enough to allow him to retain is upcoming UFAs. Adding expensive veteran contracts on two year deals, like Gionta, works completely contrary to what he needs to do.
By letting Parise walk, their two year fiscal window, their star goalie nearing retirement and the number of impending UFAs, IMO we could see a rebuild in NJ, not adding expensive vets.

I'd think more along the lines of Tallinder + mid pick for MPS.
I think Calgary would make sense. They have plenty of 2nd line wingers. Perhaps if they ever do trade Jaybo then a deal would make sense, something around sending a top 4 defensemane for a second line winger

Terrible value. Franzen and Zajac are not far apart. Zajac is much more valuable to the devils than Franzen so thats a nonstarter. Franzen hasnt even hit 60 points and you want that package?

Where did you get that information? I cant say whether they made a profit or not, but I can make an educated guess and say that they probably did.
Last year they generated 100mil in revenue and had an operating loss of 6 mil. Considering the playoff they had and the better regular season, I think it is safer to say they made a profit than not(I dont know how the debt payments play into that).

So a counter offer of Franzen for Volchenkov + a A-Prospect?
But it would be too soon for us to trade Franzen. Some of the kids neet to step up and prove they are worth a spot in the top6 and can score goals before we can move Franzen.

to trade Merrill I'd rather go after someone younger than Franzen
Franzen's contract is scary anyway. Dont think Devils want to get in with that.
Filpulla seems solid, but would is his price tag?
From NJ? Tough to say because some players we would want we would get with much less than Fil (Volch, Tallinder, maybe Greene) or are untouchable (Larsson). Maybe Merrill but again, he can't contribute next year when we need help.
If Fil is traded it it's (in a package) for a top-pairing Dman, I think.
Rumors say Fil has been the centerpiece for trade proposals to Yandle and Bouwmeester, and maybe Weber. So either Wings management doesn't think he's very valuable or he's asking too much money.

Weber cant be traded for the next year so that is off the table.
I wonder what Yandle or Bouwmeester is worth. I like Yandle alot. Im sure the devils wont get either tho
It's like the Habs fans in the other thread telling us that Collberg would be our best prospect when we passed on him to draft a different player. Clearly our scouts valued Matteau more.
But Larsson is different, he just simply isn't available.

Thats not why he wasn't resigned at all? Are you having fun posting inaccurate reasons for why parise didn't resign here?
