Honestly, it's a terrible deal.. He has missed just under 1/4 of his games at the NHL level, has never scored more than 53 points in a season, and has nagging injuries..

Tambellini is an idiot

It's definitely a big risk because of his injuries, but he was on pace for 36 goals and 71 points. It wouldn't be bad if not for the long term risk.

The amount of dollars and term being thrown around is mind boggling. The owners are idiots.

Why exactly can't they take the whole year to discuss the new CBA, all the while playing some damn hockey with the old one? I don't know why that isn't an option.

I guess because the players can strike mid-season if they dislike what the owners are saying?

Edit: Also, perhaps the player reps don't really want to worry about that while playing games?

It is an option, but it's an option the owners refuse. A lockout puts pressure on the players to cave into their demands because they don't want to go a full season without a salary. It also removes the possibility of a player strike before the winter classic or before the playoffs.

If they did that, the players would strike before the playoffs

So basically they can, but it's pretty clear nobody gives two s**ts about the fans.

Actually, this would have the fans in mind.

Back in 1994, Fehr and the MLBPA played the season with no CBA but following the layout of the previously expired on..

Baseball runs March/april til september. Then playoffs in October..

The MLBPA went on strike on August 12, 1994 and stayed on strike until the following march or april. The playoffs were cancelled. And baseball suffered a lot. Fans were and still are furious about it.

It's just not a viable option whether the fans like it or not

My point is that if the players go on strike before the play-offs then it's pretty clear that they don't care about us. They'd do anything to benefit their own *****.

Sucked for my team as well

1st place team who year before got postseason experience with ALCS loss. Thomas/Ventura rising stars and a loaded vet team with most making push for last chance at title (Raines/Cora/Guillen/Johnson/Franco)

Bere , Alvarez , McDowell , Fernandez was as good as any other 4 man rotation in baseball... Year later Bere's arm was wrecked , Blackjack was gone and Alavez's weight exploded (Fernadez was reliable then left as FA in 96)

IMO the White Sox and Expos were on collision course that year (Yankes and Braves were only real threats IMO to either)

I lost all hope for NHL preventing lockout the momnet the NHLPA hired Fehr ,,,,, Guy destroyed baseball and will do same with Hockey

Assigning the #1 pick in the draft to a financially distressed Team?

From Eklund and his sources for what it's worth...I think this is bush league if true. At least Bettman wouldn't have to rig the lottery like the NBA did...

According to a source familiar with the NHLPA's proposal, "Part of the PA's proposal allows for Bettman 2 arbitrarily assign the #1 pick in the draft to a financially distressed team."

If there are defined parameters involved, sure. Like, in what situation Bettman can jump in and say "these guys need this pick, now." At least then we could deal with reality, instead of vague conspiracy theories.

Though the theories are fun.

Now I'm torn.

Actually both sides are trying.. The parts they are on now are the frustrating parts because both sides want more money. So you'll have both sides storming out of the talks from time to time.. By taking a few days break, they can think about the offers more calmly and make reasonable counters
