Hockey player interviews are usually boring, so I enjoy when someone actually speaks their mind a bit.

We need Chitown to come in and give us his take of this website and the translation.

It's too bad then that Neuvirth wasn't close friends with Zach Parise.

I advised MAF to leave the Penguins after the PHI series.

Ha, great interview. I'm liking the guy's confidence. He's kind of like that Rabbi from Seinfeld, but spilling his own thoughts instead. "Was I not supposed to say that?"

I just skimmed it (no time for a full translation), but he's definitely talking some ****, especially on the Russians. He calls Varlamov a rusák (a kind of nasty, patronizing diminutive term for a Russian), he's super patronizing towards Semin, and he seems to have a weird thing about Hunter too.

The translation's pretty good, but a lot of the tone comes off as cocky and kinda disparaging in the Czech. But I'm not a native speaker, so it might be my anti-Caps/pro-Slovak bias creeping in.

Czech athletes are super intense in general, though. I just had to get a series of recommendations and interviews to join a Czech judo club. I think I might have even gotten a security clearance in the process. So, it wouldn't surprise me if Neuvirth's ego really is that big.

Pavelec supposedly has a huge ego as well.

It's part of the little nation thing, I think. There's only 10 million Czechs, and hockey's a huge deal there. Being a pro hockey player is kind of like being royalty, almost. But you know, small sample sizes and broad brushes...

Neuvirth is a good young goalie with upside. He's not even 25 yet. The series Washington lost in the playoffs were not due to him. So while he should probably be keeping his mouth shut, bashing him as a netminder isn't deserved.

Holtby will take over as #1 before the 2nd half.

Is there something in the water that makes Caps players into d-bags?

Or does Sweaty Teddy just seek them out and collect them?

I was thinking the same thing! I know I'm biased, but I can't imagine hearing the same type of comments coming out of any of the Penguin players, although Orpik comes close in calling out teammates when he is frustrated.

I'm also imagining Neuvirth adopting an early WWE Kurt Angle attitude by ending all of these statements with, "oh, it's true!"
