Red Wings make offer to Carlo Colaiacovo (NYR, CAR, CGY also interested?)

He goes to sign his deal and sticks the pen in his left eye and has to retire or he'll find a way to injure himself during the lockout.

I come into any CC thread with hopes of that gif being posted and I have yet to be let down. And don't worry Wings fans you'll only see him play ~50 games.

Yeah, but that's ~50 games too much.

Anyway, Strickland is usually pretty reliable when it comes to anything Blues-related. Only makes sense he'd know about Colaiacovo.
Strickland isn't very reliable, even if it concerns the Blues. Strickland is only as credible as his source. He takes everything he is told as gold. He was one that thought there was no chance Tarasenko would come over because, former Blue, Sasha Khavanov was his source and he was clearly biased towards the KHL.

What's this Colaiacovo/Blues saga you speak of?

Cola aint bad for a second pairing guy. Don't put him against top competition or expect him to play 60+ games and he will do alright. He is an offensive defenseman so don't expect stellar defense but he does his job at a second pairing pace so don't expect a Suter for your Webber.

Strick isn't some bigshot insider but he does hear a few things and if he said there were just talks and not DONE DEAL E5 on cola, then I would be inclined to believe him.

If they counted the number of periods he missed for odd ball injuries, you'd give him less credit.

He's notorious for falling by himself and needing a period or two to work it out.

Aside from his likely salary demands, Colaiacovo is an ideal third pairing defenseman. He's a good PP quarterback and will put up 20-30 points in about 60 games. As long as he doesn't play short-handed and gets sheltered even-strength minutes, he's fine.

Too bad Detroit doesn't need another bottom-pairing defenseman.

Lol...Carlo is getting a pretty bum-rap here on HFBoards. Sure, he's no iron-man...and he's going to miss a couple of weeks here and there with injuries...and yeah, he's likely going to make a few stupid mistakes in his own end...but he's not exactly a borderline 7th d-man. When he's healthy and playing well, he's a solid 2nd pairing guy. It's not unfathomable that he could put up 30 points and play respectful defense for an entire season. It's far from a sure thing based on his history, but Carlo on the top of his game is a pretty good defenseman and could help a lot of teams.

He's gotta be better than Stu Bickel. Alot better. I'll take him on the Rangers.

Don't see a spot for him on the Flames really.

If he signs in Detroit, that should end the Bouw to Detroit speculation though.

I would take him as a bottom dman for NYR, but I personally think that he'd look better in the red & white IMO.

Who ever made the videos of all goals scored while certain defensemen were on the ice should really make one for Cola from the last few years. He isn't the worst option and can be a valuable player, but don't expect him to play tough minutes. Pietrangelo will no longer be there to bail him out.

Giordano-Colaiacavo
Butler-Sarich

Brodie can compete at the NHL level, and babchuk will rot away ib the pressbox at 2.5m..

Doesn't make sense unless Calgary has a deal in the works to move someone (bow)?

I can only speak for myself but I think he's absolutely terrible, saying nothing of his injury history but just his play when healthy. Many St Louis fans are thrilled he's gone. I guess these teams know more than I do but seriously I think signing him makes any team worse than they currently are.

I can't be the only one who finds it funny that despite the constant bashing of Toronto players/prospects, none other than the Detroit Red Wings flirt with Ian White, Carlo Colaiacovo, Jonas Gustavsson.......

Wonder what the over/under is on them begging Lidstrom to come back mid-season if there is a season.

Colaicovo is a solid NHL defenseman who would fit in any team's lineup but you got to think he would have been Detroit's 3rd of 4th choice at best among UFA defensemen when Lidstrom retired.
