As a Habs fan and a Mooseheads fan I am glad to see Luca get a chance to show the Habs what he has to offer and for him to get the experience which will hopefully give him a springboard for this upcoming season.

As a 16 year old Luca started off looking great IMO but through injuries (concussion due to getting hit by own player) and a ****show behind the bench his development didn't take off.

As a 17 year old he started off playing LW on a line with Nathan Mackinnon and Darcy Ashley but even before Martin Frk came back from injury and Jonathan Drouin woke up and came to Halifax he was off the top line.

I hope he is in better shape and has improved his skating because he can snipe- it is almost Dany Heatley like what I have seen from him just not enough obviously.

Went from looking like a first-rounder at this time last year to going undrafted...probably nothing there but a good 'can't hurt' move I guess.

Needs to pick up his game this year. The few times I've seen him play in the last 2 years he's been invisible. Hopefully the tryout might get him going but it would not surprise me and I do think that he gets traded from the Moose before Dec for an upgrade somewheres else.

Does not sound very impressive but as mentioned, could always be worth the invite.

Do have a couple of reports of him and here's my only 2 thoughts:

- Still believe that in a 7 round draft, he should have been picked even if it was in round 7. Those late rounds are the kind of rounds where you pick potential and/or players with 1 or 2 good attributes with a whole lot of other things to work on and he's that kind of guy

- Having said that.....type of guy that you see as some natural talent but will eventually fit in the "Can't put it all together" category. You recognize those guys even at such a young age.

Resume: Not a bad choice to get a closer look at him. Don't expect the world though. Yet, there's a player, while not the same, that I could have put in this category, and from what we keep hearing, he did a very good job in his development camp for I don't remember which team though and it's Marek Hrivik. So, we'll see how Ciampini works with the time he's given. But people....that's called LOW expectations and TONS of time to be given to the prospect IF ANY.....

Luca had an injury during his 16 year old season that really set him back. Prior to his injury, for a period he was one of the best, if not best Moosehead player during a truly awful season.

There were high hopes leading into his 17 year old season that he would build on that, and during the preseason on a line with Nate, he looked like a lock for a top 6 roster spot.

He's twice shown flashes of being an elite player, and I think if he can improve his skating, and regain his shoot-first mentality that he had at 16, and early last season, he will certainly get drafted this coming season.

People hold against him that he was a 2nd overall pick and isn't living up to his billing as a top 6 goal scorer. But once he settled into his 3rd line role last season, he was actually pretty good at it. During the second half he certainly began taking the body more and while he's not a threat of laying big hits, he certainly began finishing his hits on the forecheck.

I won't hold my breath, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see a breakout season from Luca from some of the glimpses he's given us over the past two seasons.

I think this is a pretty accurate assessment. His number one asset is his shot. It's heavy, deadly accurate when he's "on" (and actually fighting to get into good shooting position/areas), and he gets it off really quick. It's that aspect that keeps intriguing scouts, I'm sure.

I think it's more than just his skating, though. I think he may be lacking some higher level of hockey sense or something. He just seems to get so lost sometimes, or unable to anticipate the kinds of things that guys with talent are going to pull off trying to get the puck to him. I also wonder about his ability to learn and assimilate systems. Maybe it's just a timing thing or something. When he was given more simple roles on the 3rd line, and actually put a little more effort into getting around the ice quickly/smartly enough to finish checks, he started catching a groove.

I dunno, I think absolute best case scenario he maxes out as a guy who makes an NHL 3rd line somewhat dangerous from a scoring aspect, because I don't see him having the speed, first couple of steps, or consistency/intensity to ever keep up with "typical" top 6 linemates/assignments (and/or face "typical" checking such lines face). Wouldn't be surprised to see him 6 years or so from now among the leading scorers in the AHL (or a European league, I suppose) because of the tools he has. But, he'd have to improve in a lot of key areas (imo) before becoming a legit threat to other prospects vying for a spot on an NHL team.

To be honest, I would have given a look at Alessandros Soumakis before Ciampini.

This said... it costs nothing, and it's not like Ciampini isn't gifted either.

Played against Ciampini in a summer 3 on 3 league and in high school hockey when he was 15/16. Was dominant in both when he wanted to be. Good heavy shot, not the fleetest of foot though. I think it was well worth it to give him a tryout.

Wasn't Ciampini supposed to be unreal talented? Someone needs to take this goof aside and tell him he is a breathe away from bust status and looking for work at the local walmart.

For some reason I get way too optimistic when one of these guys gets a tryout and then end up disappointed.

IMHO Habs will give him a contract......nothing to lose , lots of upside for Habs..
A free pick really.

No different than Malcom Subban drafted by Bruins grew up a Leafs fan .Every team has guy's who were fans of other teams, but that changes with money..lol

I'm happy we're giving him a shot, could end up paying off like David D did ...

I do remember people in here saying they were glad we didn't draft Patrice Bergeron 'cause he was a Nordiques fan and grew up hating the Habs....how brillant is this...

Habs are just trying to create as much competition as possible. At the same time they got an up and close look at his REAL potential. Doesnt hurt at all. #ProActiveGMing

Well, if the kid never took any power skating lessons before and spent the entire summer doing so with the Habs, than it might be worth a shot.

Not worth a contract spot. Guy takes stupid penalties and was pretty much invisible in the play-offs/memorial cup run. Does not have the skating or the will to be an NHL player.
