I don't think he'll have a strong first couple weeks, but he always rallies back. I'm not worried about him. I'm guessing the second year was added in case of a lockout. He seemed about ten years younger in the playoffs too.
Do you think the leafs will make the playoffs in the next 2 years?
No need to insult now. The visiting Leafs fans have actually been pretty cool here. This one didn't say coming in peace though!

The way he played from all star break on, and in the playoffs was the best stretch I've seen from him in 4 years at least. Despite a few clunky games here, and there and a couple in the playoffs which are normal for all goaltenders. Usually at the end of the year he would start getting gassed and that would carry into the playoffs. He didn't look like that late this year. I'd say less starts earlier in the year slowed him down early, but kept him sharp later, and paid off.
Brodeur is Brodeur. Unless he gives me a reason to be worried, I'm more than confident in his abilities to tend to the net. That being said Brodeur is not a Top 10 goalie in the league anymore; but still a very serviceable starter.
I'd imagine he'd play out both seasons pending injury.
Did any non Devil fans actually watch Marty in the playoffs ?
He can still preform when it counts. I'll take a middle of the road Marty with flashes of brilliance during the regular season if he's going to give that performance in the playoffs.
I think he'll finish out both years. If there is a year long lockout(There shouldn't be but who the **** knows with these POS's?) he said he would still come back, but I don't wanna see what he looks like after a year. If the season doesn't start until December that would be the same amount of time between the last two seasons as we were done first week of April. Our off season wouldn't be any longer than last year.
Should he not come back for the second year I wouldn't be surprised if they cooked up a scheme to put him on LTIR so it don't count against the cap.

I don't even think goaltending is our weakness. Right now it's probably secondary scoring to be honest. Moose is a very very reliable backup. Should really be splitting time but it's Marty we're talking about.
I don't think goaltending is our weakness either. It's certainly not Jennings Trophy caliber at all, but yeah scoring is what we need. I used to think Marty, and Moose should split time, but I really don't think that anymore. Marty plays a lot better when he's playing more often. I would like to see them split back to backs again, and Moose getting a few odd starts here, and there when we don't have as many back to backs. Especially early in the season, and late in the season. Glancing over our schedule if the season starts on time it doesn't appear we have as many back to backs early in the season aside from the first two games.
I'd be shocked if we're playing hockey before Dec 1st. The season may very well start with the winter classic there is next to no way the NHL lets that money pit go unplayed.

I hope if the season is supposed to kick off with the Winter Classic that's cancelled too, and has to start a week later. They deserve it for screwing us out of 3 months of hockey.

Well, at least he didn't say come in peace, amirite?
But seriously, the lockout will probably cause his retirement.

If there is any kind of season at all no way he retires. Assuming it starts in December-January his off time will have been as long or maybe a month longer than his off season last year with missing the playoffs. If there is no season by January or February tops then it's safe to say there will be no season at all.
I trust him of all people when he says he'll play until his contract runs out if we lose a whole year. I think if he is physically able to play he will. However I don't wanna see what he looks like after sitting out over a year. I remember him not looking too hot in the World Championships in 05 after sitting a year.
He'll suck the first month, everyone on the main board will make their "MARTY IS WASHED UP" threads, and then he'll go back to being Marty for the rest of the season.
It's a tradition.
