Detroit rivals should have learned by now NOT to hope one of their talented but underachieving castoffs sign in Detroit. They always seem to end up playing a significant role and blend in quite well.

Wasn't Strickland the one that "broke" the JJ for Pronger trade that never was?

It's the typical Detroit move, fill the holes with former leafs. Bob Rouse, Larry Murphy, Jamie Macoun, Mathieu Schneider, Wendal Clark, Curtis Joseph.....

surely there is a better choice than CC? Aki Berg? Karel Pilar? Richard Jackman? Staffan Kronwall? Pavel Kubina?

Isn't Roszival still available too? There are still some good d-men out there for these teams to pick up. No superstars, but the teams that are still looking for d-men aren't looking for superstars anyway at this point, they're looking for depth guys.

Detroit picking up Toronto castoffs and rejuvenating their careers isn't anything new ... Just ask Bob Rouse, Jamie Mccoun, and Larry Murphy.

A source told MLive.com that the Red Wings have made a two-year offer for about $2.5 million a season.

Detroit has seemed to shy away completely from big tough dmen. Probably because they are a puck moving/possesion team. I think carlo will do ok

Carlo is an alright player, but my biggest complaint is that he is one of the most injury prone players in the league. He has also played a lot with Petro over the past two seasons. Blues need to add another defenseman, but there isnt anything with Carlo that you cant find in other defenseman that are still available. 2.5 a year is more than I expected he get, but it hardly is breaking the bank.

Odd, I would have thought you would have preferred St. Louis keep a coach such as Andy Murray or similar.

Or, is your hope that by the Blues providing better competition it will keep the Red Wings better?

Regardless, the important thing is not that Carlo signed with the Wings (although your cameramen are going to be focused in on him from this point forward in hopes of generating a new meme)...rather that he did not sign with the Blues.

White, Colaiacovo, who's next Kaberle, Gill, Kubina?

Detroit forming a former Leafs defence core is pretty laughable...lol

What's really funny is that Detroit's "Toronto castoff" defense will still be more effective than the defense that Toronto has replaced those castoffs with.

Yeah, he won the Jack Adams Trophy after the Blues started miserably.

Colaiacovo is trash. The only reason he looked almost okay at times was because he played with Pietrangelo.

It has to do with the fact most Wings fans are comfortable with their playoff track record against both Hitchcock and Coach Q for that matter. You can point to talent, but both have struggled getting their systems to beat the Wings when the chips are all on the table in the post-season. Both guys systems have broke down in trying to defend the puck possession system Detroit employs. That is where a part of the confidence comes from right or wrong.

Not a fan of the Carlo signing. Would rather target Rozsival.

I can't find anything laughable about putting players in a right system with potent coaching

I have to be honest here... Almost EVERY THREAD in which proposals are made a veteran defencemen these days, my first thought is almost always "why don't you keep that asset you're so willing to give up, and just go sign Rozsival?"

It's mind-bottling that Rozy's still unsigned, IMO.

Did Carlo actually sign with Detroit, or is this just a couple people misreading the thread? I haven't seen any news about it other than a rumor of an offer, yet.

Also Doug Weight will definitely not be traded... oh wait Doug Weight has just been traded... and Peter Cajanek is here to say... well it was nice while he lasted, good luck to him.
