Seth Jones to the Olympics?

I know it's a big proposition, and he still has to outplay the likes of Carlson, Faulk, E. Johnson, J. Johnson, Orpik, etc., but does he have a real shot? The things I'm hearing about him have him compared to being the next Pronger, so why not consider him for the Olympics? Any thoughts?

Are you guys forgetting that Drew Doughty was just barely 20 in Vancouver?

I'm remembering that Crosby didn't make the 2006 Olympic team.

I am willing to take the chance that Jones will not be:

i) as good as Doughty;
ii) paired with Scott Niedermayer or Duncan Keith.

Again, please send Seth Jones to Sochi in 2014.

Good point, nothings impossible I suppose.

Still, i'll take my chances on him being on their team in 2014 as a good thing for us.

We don't know yet how good Jones will be but Doughty proved that a guy that young can perform well on the biggest of stage. Regardless of who he was paired with, he might have been the best defenceman in Vancouver.

I doubt he goes. Subban isn't even a lock for the olympics, and i'd take him over Jones in the 2014 olympics anytime.

Those players are from different countries.

Highly unlikely but not impossible. If Jones were to come in and immediately have a Drew Doughty like impact, he'd certainly be in the discussion. But, that's not common, regardless of how good Jones is a prospect. Another factor working against Jones would be that since he's a late birthday he's obviously not eligible to be in the draft until 2013 and thus, if he were to immediately play in the NHL and have a Doughty like impact he'd still only be in the middle of his rookie season when Sochi would roll around. A guy like Doughty had a full rookie season and then was in the middle of his 2nd year when he made the Vancouver team. That extra experience is enormous and would be another factor working against Jones.

I hate to dismiss anything but I can't see it happening. I could see Jones sneaking onto one of the next 2 World Championship squads though, especially with how little interest in generates among the American NHLers, although hopefully that interest will be eleveated here for the next tournament as players want to audition for Sochi.

simply dont see it....

too many names ahead of him that are young but more proven : McDonagh, Shattenkirk, Faulk, Bogosian, Gardiner, Fowler, Carlson etc...

I hope he is in the NHL right after his draft and has a monster rookie season in 2014, but our defense is our strength, just too many players to have to jump over imo, though anything is possible...lets see how the kids does in the WHL before we start thinking about this

If he did it'd mean Burke was drunk or Jones is probably the most polished d prospect ever.

I'd say the only 2013 prospects who can make the olympics are Barkov and MAYBE Ristolainen.

Finland really hasn't had young guys in the Olympics or WHC often, we seem to trust experience instead. So most likely no Barkov or Ristolainen in 2014.

Mainly because our youngsters haven't been good enough.

I think Granlund and Koivu are pretty much locks, S. Koivu and Immonen are possible. I could see Barkov being better than them when Sochi rolls around.
