This Yankee team just isn't very good. The lineup is flawed and needs to be revamped.

Take a look around the AL. Eight of 14 teams over .500. The league is a lot tougher this year.

Considering all the injuries, they are still +97 in runs and lead the toughest division in baseball.

It's not that the Yankees aren't good. The rest of MLB is just super competitive than years past.

The only upgrade they need is at catcher.

This coincidentally continues to slip everyone's mind.

Their lineup is flawed. Only two .300 hitters. When you have 7 hitters that hit between .240-.260, you are not a good hitting team. I don't care how many homer-uns they hit.

Texieira is not the hitter the Yankees thought they were getting.
Granderson has a lot holes in his swing.
Martin is done. Like 4 years ago...
Ibanez/Chavez have been productive but they're susceptible to off-speed stuff.
Arod is not aging well. Should not be batting clean-up. When he was healthy they had him there...
Swisher is a good player.
Ichiro is ehh.

My point is the lineup isn't well rounded. Lacks contact hitters (well rounded, hit the ball to all fields hitters) and speed.
You have a bunch of guys that swing for the fences a lot and have too many holes in their swing/s.
This is why they struggle in October and with RISP.

Yankees lead the American League in OPS and Slugging, and are 3rd in OBP. They're first in HR, second in RBI, first in total bases, and second in runs.

They are also eighth in the AL in strikeouts.

You have to factor in the Gardner and A-Rod injuries as well. Swisher missed some time too.

I like the Dynasty Yankees of the late 1990s, but those teams were built by Bob Watson and Stick Michael. If you look around the league, the Yankees still have the most complete lineup in the game (when healthy). No team in the AL can bring out a 1-9 like they can, including Texas

The yankees took three of four from the Rangers a week ago, and it should have been a four-game sweep if not for the bullpen.

All that being said, i still don't think the Yankees have what it takes to win the World Series.

But anything can happen. If all this rest Sabathia has had will help, he can carry the staff to the pennant.

Sabathia and Kuroda can give them solid performances in the postseason, but who can you count on after that? Ok, Pettitte, but who knows if he's even gonna make it back in time to make a difference.

The lineup is ok, but very fragile. That being said, they're still winning enough games despite guys getting hurt and/or slumping. Swisher and Jeter are hitting, but Swisher still has to prove he can also get hot in the playoffs.

I do believe A-Rod is going to put up big numbers once he gets his swing timing back. He was already getting on a roll and hitting more than just singles until Hernandez hit him.

looks like the yankees got one of the rare solid starts from phil hughes today and they definetly needed it.

He's had far more solid starts this year than not. I know he's not the ace everyone wanted him to be, but he gets much more abuse than he deserves.

To say cliff lee hasn't been getting much help from his team would be a huge understatement.

He had a game this season where he pitched 10 scoreless innings and his team lost.

Like I said, this team isn't that good. They're in first place due to a hot streak in June.
We haven't seen that dominance since. They've been mediocre prior to that hot June and since mid July.

When you've been mediocre 3 1/2 months (we'll see about September. likely more of the same) out of 5, you have established the kind of team you are.

well the yankees can only be good for so long. the orioles were going to be good again sooner or later. they have alot of talented young players. it's been fifteen years since they were last relevant. they're due to be good again after all the rebuilding they have done during that span.

the last time the yanks were hot was also the last time the yanks were healthy..this season has been decimated by injuries. its incredible that they are still in first place despite seemingly 1/2 their roster on the dl.

It's funny how everyone talks about Red Sox and Jays (understandably so) about all of their injuries yet not many are talking about players Yankees are missing. No contributions at all from Gardner, Rivera and Pineda. A-Rod and Joba missed good chunk of the season, Andy is on the shelf and now Nova too.

Even when they were healthy, it was a lot of the same issues...can't hit with RISP, HR dependent etc....

Outside of Jeter & Cano, there are no .300 hitters. Just a lot bad hitters who just happen to have power.
Lots of guys susceptible to off-speed pitchers, who just want to pull everything and hit HR's.

Very flawed team. Even when healthy. btw. Arod wasn't doing a whole lot before he got hurt...
