Reiterating because this was exactly and exclusively my point. He's not one of those Amazingly Exceptional types, but he's of a type rare enough and useful enough that we're not about to give him up for Yet Another Energy Fourth Liner with seemingly similar skills.

I don't want to trade him at all, so this isn't something I can fairly evaluate. I'd catch myself saying "he's part of the package for [insert big four player here]" and then we'd have to take the poor thread out behind the woodshed and put 'er down due to my overwhelming lack of restraint.

Suggestions based around Jones are probably as close as you get to fair value if we're talking about his talent level as the centerpiece... but I just don't wanna.

Omark is someone I'd take as a throw-in, not as a value equalizer. I do not like that deal at all.

Jones + Paajarvi is more agreeable to me, but 1) I can see why Oil fans would (reasonably and rightfully) disagree, and 2) It's still less than I would be willing to accept.

He's what Brandon Prust was to the Rangers... He's a guy who is way more valuable to his own team than he would ever be in a trade (second rounder and mid-level prospect AT BEST would be my guess). That value wouldn't equate to what he brings to CBJ.

On a side note: I thought CBJ wants to incorporate grit and a winning attitude. Why do we need to know his trade value?

Hey is there a chance that you'd want to move Johansen?

Well then you can keep him. I see his value but I'm not giving up a 3rd liner and a potential top 6 guy with size and speed for him.

The OP isn't actually a Jackets fan, in case that's causing confusion.

I'm sure you're already quite familiar with the price.

That's fair, and it's also perfectly in line with my desires. Everybody wins!

What would it cost the Leafs to land him?

Please note all the prior posts from CBJ fans saying "we don't want to trade him", then draw your own conclusions.

Columbus wont likely be trading forwards. They'll be trading blueliners FOR forwards.

Straight up. I mean, there is an injury risk to be considered, and it's not like he'd be missed with Malkin there anyways.

Yes so i would offer something like Wellwood+2/3 rounder for DD. Then we can have awesome bottom 6.. Rinaldo-Dorset-Talbot and Fedotenko-Couturier-Read.

Instantly rejected by Columbus. We make a lot of use of what DD brings to the team, and Wellwood not only fails to patch the hole left behind, he doesn't seem to actually add anything of substance. We'd be better off promoting Calvert and keeping DD.

Dorsett is a guy that actually brings fans to games... I love watching that dude play.

Thats only four League wide

Devils have Clarkson. Rangers have Rupp/Asham. There's a lot of physical guys that can pot a few goals and play on a PP unit. I could name more if I tried.

Rupp and Asham faced nothing even slightly like the hard-minutes situations Dorsett did, and did worse than him in the scenarios he was in. They don't seem like good comparisons to me at all.

Clarkson might be reasonable. He's not been in the same situations but did much better where he was, so I wouldn't be shocked if he could handle the job.

It's not the skillset or playing style. It's the end results on the ice. DD's in pretty nice company as a result of same.

to trade Jones for Dorsett would be a lateral move, makes no sense. Also from a Oiler's perspective, Jones can go up in the lines to fill holes when injuries occur.

Wouldn't feel very comfortable having Dorsett in the top 6.

It was going to be the latter seeing as though Komi is the ultimate instant dealbreaker for everything, but then I decided that that was me probably being a bit too hypersensitive and decided to just give back a little.

Also, that's the incorrect pronoun.
