Yeah we know about Meehan. He fights tooth-and-ear to make sure his clients get compensated fairly. He's not going to buy BS like "Hall's contract is the ceiling".
He's also Doughty's agent, and ensured that a top-5 defenseman got paid more than a top-10 centerman on that team.
Just like how he's going to ensure a proven 30-goal, 75-point All-Star is going to get paid more than a guy who has none of those accolades, nor has even hit 60 points in his NHL career.
Tambo is just going to laugh at Meehan if he tries to base the contract on current achievements.
Hall was given a contract based on projection and potential. Eberle will too.

What a ridiculous argument.
He got paid based on what he's achieved thus far for his age - similar to how Tavares and Skinner were paid.
Eberle is in the same boat. He'll get paid more than Hall unless he's willing to take the sacrificial pay cut. Which I doubt Meehan is going to be happy with.

This seems like a case of seeing what you want to see.
If you think projection and potential has nothing to do with Hall's contract, this really isn't worth discussing.

It's clearly based off potential, at least partially. Just look at the term...
I don't see why Hall would set the bar salary-wise. He's not even our best player. Again, it's like if the Kings made Dustin Brown more money than anyone else.
He's their leader, their heart-and-soul, and a very good hockey player.
But he's simply not as good as Kopitar and Doughty.
RNH and Eberle are going to get more by virtue of being better players. If it was that easy why do you think it's taking so long to get Eberle signed?
Honestly we may be better off waiting until the new CBA.
I'm not up in arms over the Hall signing, but if the new CBA is favourable to salary rollbacks, Eberle may have no choice but to take as much as Hall or even less.

They will rollback salaries (existing one's too) regardless of when they were signed. So why would waiting make any difference?

I think this is one of the stranger points of the CBA that people do not understand.
Do people think they will cut the cap back by 20% without adjusting existing contracts? How will teams at the cap shed 20% before the start of the season?
There HAS to be a corresponding rollback of current salaries to match the decrease in the % of HRR that the players will receive under the new cap.
The only difference in waiting IMO is whether we are able to sign him long-term or not, but I don't even see that being an issue since I doubt the players agree to limiting contracts to less than about 8 years, and I doubt we want to sign him any longer than that.
I'm willing to bet its more about term than money. Being that Eberle is older I'm willing to bet he wants a shorter term than Management. I'm guessing 4/5 years is what Ebs wants.

Well, he can want anything he wants, but the Oilerd will never sign him to a 4 year deal.
I hope he just takes 5/30 or 6/36 and is happy about it.

Why wouldnt Eberle want to sign as long as Hall did. Doesn't make any sense. I think he wants a longer term than the Oilers are offering.

Could be that he wants to really cash in and sign a contract during his prime (mid-late 20's He'd be 28 at the end of a 5 year extension) instead of becoming an UFA when he's 30 if he signs an identical deal to Hall. That said I doubt that any of the kids will be in the poor house unless they live like rock stars and have no fiscal responsibility at all.
