New Score/Video Board

New scoreboard looks pretty sweet. Jackets have that going for them, which is nice.

It's going to really improve the arena experience even if Mike Todd is still there. After 12 plus years things have gotten a little stale and these improvements will bring Nationwide back to being one of the best arenas in the world.

It does indeed look pretty sweet. They also said there will be big tv displays above each party tower, as well as video boards between the tower suite floors. I hope they use them in moderation, as too many video displays would be visual overload.

Yep, looks great. Now cross your fingers for a timely start to the season so we can see this bad boy!

I've been to HP Pavilion and the Tampa Bay Times Forum in recent years, both with upgraded videoboards.

This blows the crap out of both. It's like Tampa's, but this seems to have more bells and whistles.

Huzzah!

Not really sure what else to say. Excited to see an update to the scoreboard and the rest of the video screens in the arena.

Seriously. What is the team going to do if the season is delayed? They'd have this big shiny new toy but nobody to see it. I say the team holds a "Cannonfest 3.5" kinda event and shows Skraut's videos on them, then hold an NHL13 tournament. I can think of no better way to break them in.

The boards at Tampa Bay and Carolina are both very impressive in person and I think this set up will be even better.

The more I think about it the more I can not wait for this season to start. This year is really going to have the feeling of the Inaugural Season with a nice shiny upgraded arena and a team with a lot of question marks that should be very fun to follow. Plus we get the ASG on top of that.

This could be a cool marketing video.

Computer with Columbus Blue Jackets wallpaper. Alert box pops up "You have several upgrades available." Click on OK. The window shows: Roster upgrade, Scoreboard upgrade, Audio upgrade, etc. Check all boxes. An alert box pops up "Installing these upgrades require you to reboot your franchise." Click on OK. Up pops Blue Jackets 2.0!

It's a valid question. The possibility of a delayed/shortened season is high, so what are the arena folks going to do? Scheduling last-minute concerts and other higher profile events is unlikely.
Anyway, that's for another thread.

That would have been an amazing video at Cannonfest...

Boy oh boy. If we could get Mike Todd replaced it would really start to feel like a professional sporting event. I can't get past his hick-ness. With him still there the arena scoreboard might be like putting lipstick on a pig (phrase Mike might use).

It would be really nice to upgrade the event host as well as the scoreboard.

I was hoping that was going to be the case, but he called me last week to remind me of the ticket pre sale.

Haha he called me tonight.

Can't wait to see the upgrades, but it may be awhile to see them during an NHL game.

Went to a function at Nationwide tonight and they gave us a tour of the improvements currently under construction. The scoreboard is huge, seeing it sitting on the floor is quite impressive! Looks like they are constructing a building down there! The video band around the arena has been updated to HD and the new dasher boards and glass is installed. The yellow band at the bottom of the old boards was a seperate piece sticking out about 1/2 inch causing weird bounces and such. It is integrated in the new ones making a smooth surface all the way down. The glass supports are farther apart making viewing a little clearer. On the corners they went from 4' apart to 5', and on the sides they went from 5' apart to 8'. they are also colored blue on the inside facing the ice. There are speakers all over the place, the sound should be incredible. They have not begun the video boards over the party towers yet but they have begun to extend the video band so it goes completely around the arena.
All in all it looks quite impressive, Nationwide arena will be a completely different experience when its finished.............................now if we could only win some games..............!!
