Calling it right now. Ottawa drafts Stephen Harper (LW - Erie) or Darnell Nurse (D - The Soo) with their first round pick.

and that's not because of Harper's name. He's going to be a stud and he fits our team model to a tee. Nurse is nasty, Pronger-esque.

You can all praise Marklar when it comes true next June.

Nurse reminded me so much of Pronger when he played with Don Mills, mainly because he wore #25 (Prongers old #) and their jersey was the Flyers.

Seth Jones will be with Portland this year FWIW. I agree that it will be a sick draft though.

I'll try and go out to a Portland game this year probably vs Seattle.

Jones vs Shea Theodore sounds like a good match up

I knew that, but somehow I was too focused on copying the name of the Finnish teams.

Thanks for the catch.

I like this site. They update it often with pro scouts reports and current rankings. They are not 100% accurate, but you get a general idea.

I hope Vlajkov can continue his progression from the 2nd half last year.

With the departure of Broussard and Zanetti (thank god) Vlajkov and Cally will have bigger roles to fill this year. I'm big on both kids so I'm optimistic.

Yeah, I'm much more excited about Callaghan and Vlajkov than the 18 year old 2nd Round Picks Fielding and Shipley.

Ignoring BPA.

Do we go after a D or a forward?

I would like to fill out our D core some more.

Even if he does, I'd argue that he wouldn't if he was in Ottawa.

It just wasn't a good fit. A LOT more optimistic about Salituro than Perklin.

Callaghan is my dark horse guy this year. Passed over in this years draft I could see him going in the top half of the draft. He has everything NHL teams covet.

Callaghan has the ability to be an actual effective tough guy, one that can play his position as well.

I'll puke if another Stephen Harper makes it to Ottawa.

BPA, then defenseman. They say you can trade for defenseman, but doubtful you'll get an elite player like Karlsson, Doughty, Pietrangelo, etc.

Outside of Mack, Jones, and maybe Monahan, who from this draft class is "NHL ready"?

EDIT: forgot about Barkov. I think he's ready for the bigs.

The Murrays have said in the past that if they have two prospects rated equal that they will draft the defenceman. They mention that a top 4 defenceman are harder to find and acquire then a top 6 forward.

Ristolainen has been quite the riser, I remember thinking he should be right around where Ottawa would be drafting halfway through last year, but I highly doubt we'll land him now. THat would be one of the best possible solutions for me.

Two guys that I have been very impressed with are Elias Lindholm and Hudson Fasching.

I'm not sure Barkov is ready yet. Maybe he could hold his own but for he's development is better that he enters NHL in 2-3 years. He needs to fill out a little and improve he's skating.

He's also very young, he turned 17 just last Sunday.

I think Ristolainen could be mid 1st pick. He's skillset is higher imo but as a Finn, he doesn't get as much exposure. Well WJCs but Finland's team isn't the best so it will probably hurt he's performance.
