He's 37, and his power is already declining swiftly. I don't see him keeping up a pace where he can hit that many home runs.

If he stays healthy and plays 130 games a season for the remainder of his career, he can still do it. That's a big "if" though.

I actually believe Nova is Felix lite in terms of style. Nowhere did I say Nova was as good as Felix.

95-96 mph 4 seam fastball
92-94 mph 2 seam fastball
Slider
Curveball

Only difference is Nova doesn't have a change up. What makes Felix better is that his stuff is better, and has a better understanding of what pitching is.

So because he has the same pitches he is a "lite" version as a far superior player? That's like saying Wedgewood is a Brodeur "lite" because they both make saves!!!!!!!!!

2/10 for getting me to respond Mike

Terrible comparison.

My offer of going to the bar together is still there just so you know.

So the only difference is the King Felix blows Nova out of the water and the two are incomparable. At least we've established this.

Felix and Nova both have two fastballs, a curveball, and a slider.

Therefore they're the same pitcher.

I'm the same type of pitcher as both of them too.

Nova is nothing like Hernandez. Having the same types of pitches does not mean having the same level of stuff. If that was true, every closer would be throwing nothing but cutters in order to be Mariano-lite.

Um you can compare them regarding style. The both pitch with similar styles. Not to mention they're both similar in physique.

New flash. Nova throws HARDER than Felix this year.

Style and physique are also very similar. Also check out their numbers in their rookie and sophomore seasons.

Except no closer ever throws nothing but cutters. But Rafael Betancourt has a similar delivery as Mo.

Average Fastball Velocity in 2012:

Ivan Nova - 93mph
Felix Hernandez - 92mph

If average velocity is 92-93, a lot of pitches will be hitting 95-96.

Look, I'm all for comparing bad players to good players in terms of style, but comparing Nova to Felix is just stupid.

You can compare pitchers saying they're sinker ballers, saying they try to overpower you with fastballs, knuckleballers, etc. Saying two pitchers of similar stature with the 4 most common pitches in baseballs are alike is just silly.

Also, comparing rookie and sophomore seasons is the dumbest logic in sports debating. I've had Jet fans tell me how good Mark Sanchez is because of how far the Jets got in the playoffs his first two years compared to the level of success Peyton Manning had. Players develop at different rates. Because Felix and Nova have similar stats (I'm assuming since you told me to look them up) in their first two years is irrelevant in every way. Does that mean any player with a better rookie season than Felix will be better? I guess Zach Duke and his 1.81 rookie ERA make him the best pitcher of our generation.

Except the pitches they throw isn't my only comparison criteria. And you completely missed my point regarding the sophomore season thing.

It is extremely unlikely for Nova to have the same or even a similar career trajectory as Hernandez. That's why comparing them is a bizarre and ultimately pointless exercise.

I'm not projecting his future. I'm simply saying they have a similar style, have a similar physique, and are both from Central America.

So are about a quarter of the players in the league.

Why say they're similar if you're not making a prediction about his future? Seems like a meaningless argument if you're not using it to make a projection.

No not really. The only pitcher I see that looks anything like Felix is Nova.

Looooooool. Seriously. Please tell me you're not serious about any of this. Partly for the sake of humanity, partly because I don't think I could laugh much more before it hurts. Using your limited (and terrible) standards, I could draw a hundred comparison of a great pitcher and a decent one. Cool logic.

Actually, the hilarious thing is that you think their numbers were even close their first 2 years.

Hernandez 2006 12-14, 4.52 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 8.3 K/9, 2.93 K/BB
Hernandez 2007 14-7, 3.92 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 7.8 K/9, 3.11 K/BB

Nova 2011 16-4, 3.70 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 5.3 K/9, 1.72 K/BB
Nova 2012 11-7, 4.92 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 8.0 K/9, 2.78 K/BB

Hernandez made his debut at 19. Nova at 23. Hernandez improved. Nova regressed. Record isn't an important factor, but is listed above just to show why you would think he's better than King Felix in any regard. OMG HE'S GOT SO MANY MORE WINS, BRAH!

Would be a lot of fun to compare both of them from age 23-25 instead...
