What should the players do when/if there'll be a lockout? I guess waiver-eligibles will head to ADK but how about the others?
Actually, there would be no waiver rules since the waiver rules are in the CBA, which we won't have..
What is the Veteran Rule?
Each AHL Club must dress for each regularly scheduled or play-off game, at least eleven (11) Players, other than goaltenders, who have played in a total of not more than two hundred and sixty (260) regular season games in the National Hockey League, American Hockey League, International Hockey League, or any European Elite League, prior to the start of the season, and one (1) player, other than goaltenders, who has played in a total of not more than three hundred and twenty (320) regular season games in the National Hockey League, American Hockey League, International Hockey League, or any European Elite League, prior to the start of the season. Any Player who participates in European Elite League games during a hockey season in which the Player would be eligible to play in the Canadian Hockey League (excluding an overage year) shall not have such games count in the calculation of the two hundred and sixty (260) regular season games. Players on loan from the National Hockey League for a first fourteen (14) day conditioning period shall not be affected by the aforesaid experience requirement.
Players could play there as long as they fit the rules.
I'd prefer Giroux to not play in the AHL as I wouldn't want a guy looking to make a name for himself coming along and cheapshotting him.

Send Giroux and Voracek to Jagr's team in the Czech Republic
Give the D prospects some time in the AHL. Same with Couturier and Schenn.
The Swedish Elite League is out as they are not allowing out clauses for any lockout players this time around.
I was wondering if coaches and GMs will recommend to their younger players that they play in the AHL or elsewhere and if so how will the players react as the GMs and coaches are all management and thus on the owners side in theory though not necessarily in terms of personal opinion.

doubtful. Brayden could use a year in the AHL, while Luke needs to be playing against better competition
HockeyAllsvenskan are yet undecided whether or not short term contracts will be allowed in the league and a decision will be given on september 4.
Edit: It seems that Södertälje have asked Grossmann and he might be willing to play in Södertälje, according to our club director, if short-term contracts are allowed.

I'm curious as to why you think Matt Read would go to play in Norway instead of the AHL.
well, he has a one-way contract, so he would have to sign an AHL deal to play there, plus playing there isnt going to help him out since he's pretty much already done his development

If I was an unattached player in this situation I definitely would want to go to Europe over the AHL. Is the SM-Liga relatively on par with the SEL? I could see a decent number of players going there if there are spots. If there is a lockout I'm curious to see how many non-Europeans will go to the KHL.
By far. The top scorer in Norway this season was Ryan MacMurchy. A 29 year old career AHL/ECHL tweener that has managed to score 26pts in 98 games in the AHL. In Norway, he scored 76pts in 44 games. A PPG of 1.73 in Norway compared to 0.27 in the AHL.

SM-Liiga is a lesser league than the SEL. By a decent bit, but the difference isn't as big as it used to be.

It's a depth thing, the SM-liiga's top teams can compete, but the bottom aren't as good as SEL. Overall, SEL is much better.
It's really tough to compare leagues because of style/rules being different, but if I were to rank (and I expect many people to trash these rankings, but here goes):
1. NHL
2. KHL
3. Elitserien
4. AHL
5. NLA
6. SM-liiga
7. Czech Extraliga
8. EBEL
9. DEL
10. Slovak Extraliga
It's also tough to rank the Czech and Slovak leagues because the top teams are excellent, but there's not a lot of depth. The bottom teams in those leagues are very bad.
