That Bettman-pick is utterly ********, is that genuinely being considered?! That's utter ********. I'm offended at even the insinuation of that idea. No professional competitive league should even propose the proposal, it completely detracts from what the NHL has done for years and would only be implemented by morons.

It's going to happen isn't it?

I say we let the GMs of the 30 organizations decide who gets the first overall pick.

Lock them in a room. No one gets out until they've decided.

It lends itself to subjectivity/abuse IMO.....hopefully Eklund's source is some teenager making stuff up on Twitter for dramatic effect.

I doubt it, but they could do something like MLB's competitive balance lottery where small market teams can get an extra pick between the first and second rounds.

I kind of want a lockout to happen and the NHL following to decline so that the owners get *****-slapped in the face by reality and realize that they had things just fine as they were and being willing to have a lockout was an awful idea.

On another note, where does the money that is taken from players every season and put into an escrow account go? Also what does altering the percentage of the profits mean exactly? I don't remember what the players get versus the owners but let's say it is 52%-48% respectively. If the players share is reduced by a certain percentage does that mean their salaries are reduced by a certain amount across the board?

I say if they're going to argue about who gets first overall it should be the Flyers. We've never been awarded a first overall pick in our history (circa 1967). A handful of other teams could say the same thing, but we have seniority... Fair is fair.

Yah we will accept 1st overall

And snag seth jones. Talked to a young guy on ev silvertips and he told me jones would not play for the silvertips and they traded his rights to Portland. I can see ev being a real shocking team this year, crazy young talent. If they get Murray back to the dub, that will be a huge boost for them. So was jones advised Portland is a championship calibre team? I personally like what the silvertips have built. This lockout is causing me to lose a lot of interst in hockey. What has me most excited is our potential Wjc team. Getting the first pick to land a stud like Seth jones, sounds as
likely as me winning the lotto.

A lot of people seem to be misunderstanding the Eklund rumor (or maybe I am). Doesn't it say the NHLPA is the one proposing the Bettman pick, not the owners?

reporterchris: Donald Fehr says this could be a back and forth day of negotiations -- with the NHLPA leaving NHL office and coming back.

Michael Grange ‏@michaelgrange
1st stage (?) of meeting lasted 45 min before the Fehr's left #NHL offices to consult. No comment from Fehr, wants to talk w/ constituents.

Aaron Ward ‏@aaronward_nhl

NHL saying this is not the end of the session today #TSN

Aaron Ward ‏@aaronward_nhl

Don and Steve Fehr are going to update players. Could be further meetings with NHL today

i hate this "we'll meet for an hour today, break off talks, then go back at it in a week"

these greedy ******** should be meeting at least 2-3 times a week to try and nail down a new CBA together

I hope both sides put their heads together and realize that hockey is just starting to make a come back and everything is on the up swing, and a lockout is the last thing the NHL wants, sorry but it seems greedy to me when a lot of the country is unemployed right now

Throw in a bag of scorpions every half hour, too; before long the scorpion count in the building will be high enough that they'll be eager to get this over with.

Honestly, the problem is fehr.. He always wants to talk to the players about every single detail.. Hell, the NHL wanted to start labor talks back in the beginning of the year and he was too busy dicking around

Fehr's tactics aside--he gets as much leash as the players give him, after all--primary responsibility for this stand-off lays with the owners, in my view. They're the ones invested in reopening the fundamental issue--the revenue split. Absent that, most of the other issues seem pretty easy to negotiate.

Bettman & Co. starting off with an insulting, ridiculous offer didn't help the situation along. Obviously you don't start negotiations with the best you can do, but the owners' initial offer was laughable.

I like this idea. I would also put a few hardcore fans in the room. Everytime the two sides move further from a deal they both get slashed on the leg.

Told the NHL "slightly" tweaked it's revenue sharing offer by a minimal percentage this morning. Smoke & mirrors more than anything else.
