Detroit Red Wings Prospect #17

1.) Brendan Smith - D, 6'1" 198 lbs: Mimico, ON, CAN 72.73%
2.) Gustav Nyquist - RW/LW, 5'11" 185 lbs: Halmstad, SWE 68.75%
3.) Calle Järnkrok - C, 6'0" 183 lbs: Gävle, SWE 72.73%
4.) Tomáš Tatar - LW/RW, 5'10" 186 lbs: Ilava, SVK 44.44%
5.) Tomas Jurco - RW, 6'2" 187 lbs: Kosice, SVK 65.85%
6.) Riley Sheahan - C, 6'2" 223 lbs: St. Catharines, ON, CAN 27.78%
7.) Teemu Pulkkinen - RW, 5'10" 198 lbs: Vantaa, FIN 35.92%
8.) Xavier Ouellet - D, 6'1" 190 lbs: Bayonne, FRA 45.24%
9.) Ryan Sproul - D, 6'3" 186 lbs: Mississauga, ON, CAN 45.98%
10.) Petr Mrázek - G, 6'2" 185 lbs: Ostrava, CZE 62.69%
11.) Martin Frk - RW, 6'0" 203 lbs: Bochov, CZE 34.41%
12.) Marek Tvrdoň - LW, 6'2" 218 lbs: Nitra, SVK 54.55%
13.) Nick Jensen - D, 6'0" 194 lbs: Rogers, MN, USA 35.53%
14.) Alexei Marchenko - D, 6'02'' 183 lbs: Moscow, RUS 39.02%
15.) Joakim Andersson - C, 6'2" 206 lbs: Munkedal, SWE 52.94%
16.) Mattias Bäckman - D, 6'2" 170 lbs: Linköping, SWE 40.00%

Interested to know if anybody has a new weight on Bäckman since he has started pre-season. Guessing/hoping he is a little bigger now. Ben Marshall was the add this round.

*Edit:

It has been pointed out on the prospect thread that Ouellet is now listed by his team a 6'1" and 190 lbs. So up a couple lbs and an inch taller. He is up quite a bit from last year, got his weight off tsn from the super series at 187lbs earlier. Guess he is still growing a little.

Järnkrok also did an interview where he talked about gaining seven lbs of muscle this off-season. Impressive considering he played the Worlds and really had about as short an off-season as he could over in Europe. Guess he got done what he promised the Wings though when he skipped the prospects camp. With the glut of forwards it probably doesn't matter but in the mid-180's he might look like a guy we don't want to even send back if he comes over for the preseason. Of course doesn't look like we will have one of those anyway.

Voted for Ferraro, I think he may surprise some people this year.

Aubry. Could have gone with AA or Ferraro but I like what I've seen from Aubry. AA could prove us wrong this year depending how he does in GR. Ferraro needs to build on last year. Athanasiou probably has a higher upside, but it's too early to tell.

Toss up between Aubry and Ferraro for me. Voted Ferraro though because I still have blind hope he becomes an NHL and we're at #17 so why not?

Went with Callahan. It was between him, Ferraro and Aubry. Aubry holds extra value being a center, but we're not exactly thin on that front so I'm not sure how much it will eventually matter. I just think Callahan has a shorter distance to travel to Detroit considering the game he plays. Ferraro was my second choice, but I think he'll follow Mursak's path.

Wow I was surprised because I thought the exact same thing but didnt think anyone would agree with me. Ferraro might not quite be big enough to be an effective bottom 6er, Aubry still definitely has some questionable things as well. I think when all is said and done Callahan is the most likely to be an NHLer because of his play style.

A guy that can skate as well as he can, play defensive hockey and is a top notch agitator and solid pound for pound fighter will get an NHL role. Even if Ferraro or Aubry become maybe solid enough for the bottom 6, I'm not sure they will provide enough to keep a guy like Callahan off the fourth line with his play style

Please don't vote for Nicastro. I saw him play 2 years at BU, he's not ready even for the AHL.

Went with Ferraro. He is a tad out of style as a prospect, but I am expecting a big jump forward from him this year.

I think Aubry, Callahan, Ferraro and Almquist at least have real good chances of becoming NHLers one day.

I think Aubry has the best upside of them, but I think Callahan is the best bet to eventually become an NHL-Guy due to his style of play. So I went with him.

Add: McKee or Paterson

What do you think about Chris Connolly, his former teammate?

While I don't get the love for him I am interested in seeing how he does in the AHL. Cue up the ASIA because "only time will tell".

Was kind of with you until I saw you voted for AA (forward) as your vote. Nicastro has a lot of talent skating, size, passing, hitting and a big shot. It just never seems to come together. I am interested to watch him at the AHL level. Glad AA got traded out of London but to date I don't view him much different than what you're saying about Nicastro. I watch him at times and think he has a bunch of physical tools. Then I ask myself why isn't he really impacting the game. He had a miserable year in the OHL, just because he skates fast doesn't change that. So by all means knock Nicastro's production, but it hurts your argument a little if you then pick a similarly disappointing under producing talent.
