Have leafs fans ever considered just trying to pick up some decent second liners? Maybe downgrade from Kessel into multiple smaller pieces to actually fill out some of your lines? I think if you tried the standard leaf trade but in reverse with the leafs giving up the solo piece you might get further.
Do they have needs? You bet, most teams in the league need a #1 goalie, #1 centre, and a shut down d man or two. It doesn't mean you give up all the assets you have to get them. That's plugging one hole by opening another.
I like where the team is at. There is a solid young core and some good pieces to build around when the opportunity to acquire arises. You just have to be patient and wait for things to come together.

I don't think the value is far off on the first one. Lupul had a PPG year last year and Colorado is deep in the center position with Stastny and O'Reilly. They don't really have any elite wingers. Plus Colborne might be NHL ready for next season and he's a big C with number 2 upside. Duchene is an excellent talent but had a terrible year last season and even then, I thought he would be a top centre in the league by now. I think it makes sense for both teams.

I Should have added "or any combination of the above". My point was that 90% of the teams in the league have needs and the reason for that is that there are a limited number of #1 centers, #1 goalies, 50 point PMD's, shut down d men etc available.

not pretending...Bozak will cement himself as a true 1C this year (if there isn't a lockout). But yeah, proposals in the OP are terrible
