Im abit surprised. Based on his performances at the WC's his offensive skills are on NHL-level and he isnt one-dimensional.

Had 30 points in 65 games with the Oilers and PPG in the AHL. Is he really not good enough?

Oh but then again its the lockout coming.

EDIT: apparently he is RFA.. i can understand if there is no spot for him in Edmonton

Maybe he see his chances to play for the Oilers as limited. Maybe he'll come back in a couple of years (when the Oilers rights for him is gone), or maybe not. Depends I guess if he manage to play (and play well) for Sweden in upcoming worlds.

Oddly, I think he'd be a good fit with Booth and Kesler.

Would the Oilers take a 4th for him at this point?

The effect could be the opposite, if the season starts in january, it will be probably no NHLers during the worlds.

Too small. Gets pushed around and is ineffective in the corners.

This year he failed to make the WC team though.

Always like Omark so it's a shame to see him taking his talents to Europe.

Actually he is very one dimensional (and I actually like him). His skill set is suited to be a top six winger. He has been really poor defensively at the NHl level.

Unfortunately, the Oilers have Hall, Eberle, Yakupov, and Hemsky to fill out the top six. He is not going to beat out any of those four. Then you have Smyth, Jones, Eager, Petrell, Paajarvi and Hartikanen to fill out the remaining four spots, as well as prospects like Rieder, Pitlick, Hamilton, and Zharkov in the years to come, so it is not like he will just wait around for Hemsky to leave and jump right in.

Bottomline....Not much room at the Inn. But in the right situation he could still be effective in the NHL.

This season will be difficult for Zug...so many youngsters in the team.

I'm sad to see him not get a shot in the NHL. He was a victim of numbers in EDM. Yes, one dimensional a little but one of the most creative players I've seen. Elite puck protection, excellent playmaking, not afraid to take the puck to scoring areas. I guess 30 NHL GMs disagree with me.

Oilers fail to turn an asset with no future in Edmonton into future value, again. They should have traded him last season or off season in a package for picks or a 4th line center cheaper and younger than Belanger.

Actually thgis is really one aspect of his game that is not an issue. Despite his size he is effective on the cycle and is very good at protecting the puck. In the offensive zone he is quite strong on the puck and on his skates.

Are you kidding me? You want to make the NHL and this is the league you go to?

I don't understand why teams don't trade players like Omark before they sign in Europe. Why wouldn't EDM move his rights for a 4th rounder to a team like OTT or PHX for example? It was the same thing with Shirokov. By most accounts, the guy was ready to play in the NHL and he never got his chance with the Canucks. It was a numbers game sure, but why not give him a chance and move him for an asset? Shirokov's situation bugs me more than Omark's as at least Omark got some NHL games in. Shirokov got none despite impressing in the AHL for 2 full seasons, now he's back in the KHL putting up close to PPG numbers.

Then that explains it. From what i've understood throughout his career he has taken some defensive responsibilities and not just be all offense, maybe his defensive awareness just isnt good enough for the NHL. He could still improve on that though.

I would really like to see some non-playoff team like the Islanders try him out at some point.

They've been trying to move his rights for months now. ST said after the draft that he let everyone know Omark was available and he didn't get a bite.
