MLIVE.COM: Brendan Savage cites a source claiming the Detroit Red Wings have offered UFA defenseman Carlo Coalaiacovo a two-year deal worth $2.5 million per season. The Wings had looked into the trade market and had interest in Calgary’s Jay Bouwmeester, but were unwilling to part with the assets required to land a top four defenseman.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Can’t say I’m surprised by this, Colaiacovo may be seen as a “band-aid solution” but it’s better than weakening their depth elsewhere in the roster. For now, we wait and see if he accepts it. I’m guessing he will.

Guess those Filppula-for-Sekera theories no longer seem as viable....

To be fair, JBo is going to command more assets than Sekera.

Having said that, I'd rather we hold on to Seksy.

True - but it sounded that the cost of trading for a top 4 defenseman at this point was too high for Detroit's liking.

You serious?

I like, actually. You can never have enough Seksy on your team.

I wish I could take credit for it, but somebody else used it during the season...for reasons unknown, it never caught on.

Just wondering, why is Ennis unsigned at the moment?

Crazy idea but it's been thrown out there before and there were mixed answers, but with only two years left on his contract, would it be too insane to want to get Tallinder back? What if we were able to move a defenseman? The Devils are looking to move a defenseman to get a forward. Is there a deal to be made for Hank and would anyone consider getting him back? The Devils probably want a top-six RW though and I'd hate to move Stafford now.

I'd prefer Hank to Leopold, simply because he can play the steady vet better. He's not worth Stafford though. Maybe Tropp and change.

Honetsly though, Lydman might be the easier catch. He might be a bottom pairing guy in Anaheim between Folwer/Beauch/Sbisa/Allen/Souray and that team really doesn't want to pay three mil for bottom pairing defensemen.

Also, blood v head issues...

A Slovakian pilot brings Seksy back every summer.

I'd trade Adam for Tallinder

Not only is it an upgrade... but it makes Leopold expendable and allows McNabb to develop a bit more

Tallinder-Myers
Sulzer-Ehrhoff
Sekera-Regehr
x Weber

I wonder if Miller is no longer a Reebok poster boy given that he's trying out Vaughn pads.

That's probably what I'd offer as well. If Sulzer ends up struggling at all, it'd be nice to still have Leo, but McNabb could jump in there too.
It'd be great having Tallinder-Myers back together. Between that and Regehr-Sekera, we'd have two solid shutdown pairs, and it'd let Ehrhoff become the Ennis of defensemen (just feasting off easier minutes and high o-zone starts).

Leopold is already expendable.

We have

Myers, Regehr, Sekera, Leopold, Pardy, Suzler, Weber with TJ Brennan and McNabb who can contribute in a bottom pairing role and Pysyk to be NHL ready in the near future.

And your solution is to move a Winger with size and a knack for scoring for a defenseman who missed HALF the season last year, was a healthy scratch on a team whose D is pretty thin in the playoffs...and you want to put this D-man on your top pair.

Leopold is already expendable. Period. The only use Tallinder is to sabres is trivia and three way jokes. He's injury prone, soft, and past his prime.

I think that's a pretty ignorant position to take.

Leopold isn't the type of defensemen I like, but he's an experienced 2 way guy, who can play the minutes...

without Leo... you assume that Weber can play a significant role (he coudn't last year), or that McNabb is going to be a 22 yr old phenom

If the Sabres go into the season with one of the players you listed as an everday top 6, then their blueline is in trouble...

without leo... or tallinder...
you are left with 4 experienced, playoff caliber, top 6 defenseme. we can hope Sulzer continue the chemistry... hope that Weber can be of some value... or hope the McNabb has some epic level of growth....

im not going to get into tallinder... i'll just say, i think he's a very good defensemen still, and the potential that he gets Myers back on track is worth giving up Adam's NHL potential

I'll agree, I'd do Adam for Tallinder. It'd be a good move for us.

This guy gets it, having a D of
Tallinder-Myers
Regher-Sekera
Ehrhoff-Leopold
Would be absolute dynamite, with that D and Miller in net the D and goaltendig is contender ready. Offense is a whole nother story though

Unfortunately, yeah. If we had that D and Miller, we can probably get away with the offense we have for now and just keep hoping our prospects are ready to step up and fill in our biggest holes within the next few years.
