HARBORcenter Thread

It's official!!

Quote:
Mayor Byron W. Brown today will officially announce that a team led by Sabres owner Terry Pegula will develop the Webster Block.

Under the Pegula plan, the waterfront would soon be home to two ice rinks, a hotel and parking structure, a source in the Brown administration said.

Pegula’s team was chosen over a team led by developer Carl P. Paladino.

It was the best proposal by far.

Gotta respect Pegula's vision and the resources he brings to the table to realize that vision.

Ownership of the block is apparently included in the offer to Doan, along with the Skyway, Illio Di Palo's, and one of the two Metro Rail tracks.

I think that is great news. I like the idea that it will be an additional draw for people out of the area to come to downtown, stay downtown, both during winter and summer. Plus, you gotta believe he is going to do the project "the right way".

What exactly do you mean? The full proposal has been available to review for weeks, along with video of the Q&A sessions held at City Hall where Paladino and the Sabres both answered tons of questions about their ideas.

certain things didn't come up for one reason or another. can't say much but I will say, their was def a reason why the decision got delayed for 2 weeks. the proposals you saw weren't entirely accurate. Don't get me wrong, I think both proposals are nice and I'm glad stuff is being done down there and I love Pegula's enthusiasm on and off the ice, however their is more to this that hasn't come out yet.

People clamoring for change and progress...Then complain when they get it. No wonder why we're 50 years behind everyone else

I wonder how many of those people are Paladino supporters. Just saying.

Yes, there was.

The Common Council has to approve the land sale, and they are in summer recess until September 4th. There was no point in rushing to a decision, because nothing can officially happen until next week anyways.

I've read the proposals, and I watched the Q&A video. What is there to the proposals that isn't to be found there? If you're going to imply you know something, come out with it or don't say anything at all.

look im not trying to cause a conflict or an argument. thats not the entire reason for the delay, meetings were had throughout that time. the stuff in the paper and the video didn't get into everything. All Im trying to say is that this isn't as cut and dry as you think. But I'll shut up now because I don't was to upset you.

Probably because this bid requires more taxpayer dollars.

True but that was known so that isn't something that was hidden as this guy drew5580 is implying. Also seems to me the city stands to gain more revenue from the Pegula Plan as I believe it will bring in far more people from out out of town and they will be leaving dollars behind. Oh and there's a Timmy Ho's too!

My son just played in a tourney for 15u aaa and 16u aaa. There were 10 teams in the 15 u and 15 in the 16u. 17 out of 25 teams were out of town who required hotels. The rest were rochestoer or Buffalo area teams that still needed to eat. This brought in approx 425-450 families into Rochester.

This new rink can host 6-8 tourneys a year and can bring in a lot of money into the city. Just renting the ice out to local teams will bring people downtown. We have such a shortage of ice that the kids cannot get enough practices in and are at a disadvantage against out of area teams.

This is a big step forward for the city of Buffalo.

So glad this proposal was chosen. Pegula just keeps putting his money where his mouth is. Can't wait to see how many tournaments this brings in.

It's good to hear from someone who is directly affected by the ice situation and how it will improve the experience.
