[OTT] Kyle Turris signs 5-year extension [$3.5M per]
Taylor Hall has 95 points in 126 games and hasn't played a season over 65 games but when he gets a 7 year deal worth 6M a year everyone is saying how great of a deal it is
Well, that's 20 more points in 60 less games, and we actually know Hall should improve by a decent margin. Not saying his contract is good by any stretch, because it's not, but you can't compare him to Turris. He's younger AND better (Hall, that is). Plus, he's coming off a 27 goals season in 61 games, a 36 goals pace, and that, as a 19 years old.
3,5M for Turris isn't that bad considering the current salary cap. It could end up a steal as much as it could end up a stupid contract. You can't know for sure at this point. That was my point.
This isn't high risk at all. It's $3.5M. That's nothing. Even if the cap goes to $58M and goes up every year. $3.5M is Matthew Lombardi (18 points) money. Worst comes to worst, we have a $3.5M plug on our team. It's barely anything.
What are you implying? That Ottawa was a terrible offensive team? Quite the contrary, actually, they were 4th in goals per game.
He said in an earlier post that Turris was on pace for ~50 points in Ottawa. Somebody corrected him and said less. He's pointing out in Ottawa he was on pace for that.
interesting...is the first thought that comes to mind.
I guess we will see if this turns into a good deal for the Senators, but I can't say that based off the very veyr small sample of games played as a Senator that he is worth this.
Just like I can't say that he's NOT worth it.
He spits the bit with a 35-40 point season and that will be a very very bad contract.

Very bad? Not really. Under a ~$60M cap, $3.5M is chump change.
If he's putting up 20 point seasons, sure, but otherwise, I don't see much room for "albatross" here.

He's basically the new Mike Fisher. Fans will crap on him nonstop if he doesn't produce and the term is waaaaaaaaaay too long for someone that hasn't proven anything.
Murray is way too generous with his contract signings, but maybe this one works out for us.
Worse comes to worse we waive him or just buy him out.
