I'm confused. He has the Chiefs beating us in the wild card 20-20? I'm assuming there's a typo in there...lol. Or that game should continue indefinitely in sudden death.

I would trust a monkey flinging feces at a board filled with NFL matchups (the winner of the games being the team with less **** smeared on it) before I put any credence in Peter King's predictions

I'm more interested in who he has winning the 2nd week matchup
I'd feel bad for the guy if I wasn't so frustrated by the fact that he will probably be showing his face in a game that means something. Like Myllz was saying, all the real refs have to do is sit back and wait for the fans to absolutely lose their minds and the union will get whatever they want
You know what's sad? Half the people in this thread could have made that call correctly. And we never ref'd a game in our life...just watched the game since birth.
I'd be willing to bet most people in this thread know the hand gestures, the yards for a given foul, when fouls offset, which fouls are declined, when a touchback occurs, the clock rules, etc. We might have difficulty with some judgment fouls like holding and pass interference...but the stupid stuff that these refs are getting wrong is the most befuddling.

I'm sure they know them, too. It's a little difference when you're in front of 60,000 people yelling at you.
Funny everyone in the comments there saying to give them the money they want, but I thougth it was about the league trying to professionalize the officials by making it a permanent job and not about money? I understand that point of view too, why should NFL officials be bankers during the week earning modest money when they should be full time officials always working on improving at their craft and make a comfortable living for doing so. Much less prone to outside influence as well.
Pressure makes even the simple things difficult. We'd all be just as horrible.
I don't think that I would be able to do their job but it's unprofessional for the league to trot guys out on to the field that aren't ready for it. Even the regular refs mess up a hand signal or point in the wrong direction but nowhere near on the frequency of these replacements (to say nothing of the missed actual calls).
Do any of these guys have Division 1 experience? I was never actually clear on where they found most of the replacements
As a result, those officials who called Week 1 of the preseason, and will continue to do so, wouldn't be close to NFL candidacy under normal circumstances. Craig Ochoa, who couldn't even get the opening coin toss right in the Hall of Fame game between the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals, and kept replacing "Atlanta" with "Arizona" in his calls for the Atlanta Falcons-Baltimore Ravens preseason game, used to work in the Lingerie Football League, and may have been fired from that esteemed organization.
According to CBS Sports' Mike Freeman, another official was fired from his job as a teacher for sending correspondence that was racist in nature, and another was fired from the Pac-10 in a recent sweep of a series of officiating crews that were notable for their general incompetence. This after the NFL sent a memo to all teams, a copy of which Freeman acquired, that told all clubs to avoid any criticism of the replacement refs.
Small sample set to be sure but from some articles I came across, they reportedly come from FBS, Div II, high schools... Doesn't really engender confidence
I think you are correct since he is a veteran. I'm thinking IR + injury settlement.
There is another option. I'm not an expert, but I believe the new rule the NFLPA agreed to would allow them to put him on IR, and then bring him back later in the season. Would be an interesting option.

You can only pick one, so lets wait and see who else ends up injured.
