Joe Thornton - 7M

Kopitar - 6.8M
Martin St Louis 5.625M
Eric Staal - 8.25M
Patrick Sharp - 5.9M
Zach Parise - 7.5M
Henrik Zetterberg - 6M
Jarome Iginla - 7M

Eberle outscored or scored on par with most of these guys having played fewer games. 6M for Eberle is an amazing deal. He's a young player who's trending up. How can you possibly justify giving him less than 6M?

Really screws with there salary make up. Rnh will expect 6 or more if he outperforms them and I think he can. Nail 6 as well. Already have hemsky at 5.5 . Typical oilers forgetting about d men.

Edit forget horcoff at 5.5 too. Yikes

Horcoff and Hemsky will both be gone by the time Yakupov is done his elc.

No worries.

The bar has been set. Nobody is getting more than 6mill.

I wonder what Kessel will get on the open market?

Excellent signing. This guy delivered everywhere he passed. Will be a top 20 league forward for the next 10 years. Watch out for him when the Olers will finally go into the playoffs.

I would say the opposite. The bar has been set and they won't be getting less than $6 million. I would easily put money on RNH and Yakupov warranting more money than Hall.

As far as Eberle goes, everyone knew he was going to get the same as Hall, so this was as expected.

Kopitar gets paid 6.8M for more than just scoring, and he's much better in every other facet of the game than Eberle is currently. It's not all about scoring. I don't think Eberle was overpaid at all, but Kopitar should be making more, and Hall should be making less.

How would it be the opposite?

Unless they outscore Eberle and Hall by a large margin over the next two years, it isnt happening.

And considering they will all be playing on the same line/pp unit more or less, it is highly unlikely that one of the younger players will far outstrip both of the older players.

Hall's contract was a benchmark. Eberle's contract was confirmation of that.

If you want to bet, just name the stakes.

How should Hall be making less?

I think the logic people use is that he should be paid less because he gets hurt.

Hall is just as good as Eberle when he is in the lineup, he is younger and gave up an extra year of unrestricted free agency. The Hall contract might just be a better deal than this one.

Maybe the Oilers should've told Hall he will have to take a pay cut because a teammate stepped on his head.

It is a bit annoying dealing with some of the stupid comments, so I'm hoping Seguin and a couple others sign soon so I can stop reading how this contract and the Hall deal will somehow ruin us going forward.

there's no evidence to suggest that he'll trend upwards from this year, but plenty to suggest he'll trend down!

Compare Eberle's minutes to the other top scorers in the league

Is this a stupid shooting percentage argument again?

But... but... that would suggest that he was given soft, buttery, easy minutes against bottom pairing defensemen.

Those were obviously imposters wearing Shea Weber and Ryan Suter jerseys lining up against Ebs in those games against Nashville.

hmmmm, no, it's actually a correct one. where are you seeing a stupid one? that would be hard to do - unless you wanted to argue that his on ice sh% would stay constant. that's pretty stupid i agree!!

Yeah, it's stupid. He has one of the best and most accurate wrist shots in the league and with his ice time going up in 12/13 his production should stay consistent even if his shooting percentage goes down.

Except the contract doesn't start "right now" it starts "in a couple years" after his ELC.

God you people. Don't you bother with the details before commenting?

Gonna be interesting to see what happens with the big 4 (Hall, Ebs, RNH, Yaks) with these new deals and if/when the cap goes way down.
Nice! We haven't heard this one before. First it was "Good luck signing all four for under 30m lolz!!" now it's "good luck signing them all when the cap goes down!"

its not his sh% thats important, it's the sh% while he's on the ice. have you noticed the discrepancy between his on ice sh% and say, the on ice sh% of everyone else on the team?

Sigh. Everyone is well aware of this fact. It doesn't change the argument.

If someone wants to argue $6M is too much for him, him having a year left on his current deal doesn't change their opinion. He still got rewarded a contract for play that hasn't happened yet.

A more appropriate argument against someone saying this is too much money would be he's getting overpaid now for the good chance that he'll be underpaid later. Edmonton is taking a risk by locking him up long term expecting that he'll meet and exceed the contract. Buying UFA years is expensive.
