And NCAA players can't participate in Rookie camp without a contract or that means they forfeit their scholarship !

NCAA kids at camp

Yeah, college kids that have to pay their own way probably don't go to the development camp every year.

Keep in mind, that all the college kids have to pay their own way to go to these camps so they may not always be able to attend because of the cost (NCAA rules). A junior player the Panthers can actually pay for them to attend.

Count me in as another that would like to sign Makarov, at the very least to increase our depth in goal.

Santos said that prospect Rocco Grimaldi won’t be at Monday’s development camp more because of issues at college and not with his surgically repaired knee.

I noticed that Grimaldi's name was pulled from the U.S. WJC Evaluation Camp roster as well. Still healing up? That camp won't be held until August.

Gentlemen (possibly ladies) of the Florida Panthers board, I am a Jets fan coming to ask about one of your prospects. While we are currently division rivals I cannot imagine that willl last too much longer and I'd love to keep this all civil.

I'm curious about Colby Robak. He looks to put up decent to good numbers, sounds to be a fairly high quality two way guy, no part of his game outstanding, none bad.

I'm wondering what your take on him is, what his future looks like in the organization, if he might be available, what you would want for him, yada?

Much obliged.

I've been keeping a close eye on Robak since we drafted him, and I've always been quite high on him.

He's definitely a long-term project, but he's coming along nicely so far. He's improved every year since the draft, which is always a good sign. He'll likely top out as a good two-way mid-pairing guy I think. Bottom pairing at the very least. Good size, which he has always been reluctant to use. Better skating. Very prototypical puck-moving-defenceman type. Like you said, he's not great at any one thing but nor is he really bad at any one thing.

He made the AHL all-star team last year so he'll probably be one of the first defensive call-ups in the case of injury. He'll be competing with Tyson Strachan, who earned a one-way extension as he acquitted himself nicely in the limited time he was in the NHL. There's also the younger and meaner Petrovic he's competing with, who suddenly has an offensive game to go along with his defensive toughness.

In short, Robak looks to eventually make the Panthers, but it'll be tough for him to crack the lineup both now and in the future. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it'll force him to really fight and grow if he wants a roster spot. Right now we've got 8 legit NHL defenseman on the roster who probably aren't going anywhere, and a few young defenseman who definitely aren't going anywhere without a fight. The thing that's really working in Robak's favor is our lack of talent in our defensive prospect pool. Behind him, Petrovic, Matheson and to a lesser extent Bengtsson there's really no one.

I'm looking forward to our future defensive corps of: Kulikov, Gudbranson, (Garrison ) Petrovic, Matheson, Robak, and perhaps even Ellerby and Bengtsson.

I've been working through each NHL team and reviewing their OHL prospects (based on their progression last year and an outlook to next year).

Florida is today.

Huberdeau one of the headliners in the upcoming "Canada-Russia Challenge"

http://www.tsn.ca/world_jrs/story/?id=402547

Quote:
Team Canada's roster features 13 NHL first-round draft picks including Florida Panther Jonathan Huberdeau, the Columbus Blue Jackets' Ryan Murray, the Winnipeg Jets' Mark Scheifele and the Toronto Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly.

The Canadians will face Russia's three first-rounders, including the first overall draft pick in the 2012 NHL Draft Nail Yakupov of the Edmonton Oilers.

He's a spect that doesn't get a lot of attention in our system. He went into the USHL last season, mid season if I remember correctly, due to a lack of playing time in Sweden. He didn't really do much in the USHL which was disappointing. He didn't take a step forward last season in terms of development seemingly but it could have just been for adjustment reasons. From what I know he is a smooth skating big Dman who is defensively sound, and can make a solid first pass. I don't think he is overly physical either.

It's too early to write him off yet or say he will be anything good. Definitely a wait and see prospect at this point, but I like his tools and I hope he can pull it together in the USHL.

One of J17 or MR could likely help you more here as they are the spect gurus.

2 goals and 4 assists. 1 of those goals and 2 of the assists were in the last game.

Don't think Howden has elite upside, but can be a solid 50-60 two way in his prime, and i'd at this point rank that over Grimaldi too, along with Knight.

Markstrom is too low, but i understand how he rates Goalies, so no point discussing much there.

Bengtsson had an awful development year. He'll have to make huge strides this year. Not nearly as promising as one hoped when we took him.

Glad to see Mcfarland not rated.

Kosov/Delnov the interesting wildcards. From what i've seen of Kosov, i think he can be an effective complimentary Forward. Not a typical Russian Forward. So many variables that are hard to project with Russian domestic players though.

Interesting that we clearly still scouting in Russia beyond the obvious, and are not afraid to draft from there if they like somebody. Kosov/Delnov were certainly relatively unknown to a wider audience.

No doubt we have a very very solid prospect pool, although the last draft was very meh for me. Not really a fan of Matheson. Good skating can often mask a lack of other exceptional abilities for Defenseman at the draft IMO.
