Reason the talks are "recessed".

Quote:
Pat Leonard ‏@NYDNRangers
BUT Fehr says talks have stalled because @NHL says players must be prepared for "immediate reset" in player revenue, & they're not

There are no more talks scheduled for now.

Also,

Quote:
Pat Leonard ‏@StopCoachingPat
Fehr says @NHL revenue sharing isn't good enough. Players trying to break the lockout cycle also

Meetings.

Quote:
Pat Leonard ‏@NYDNRangers
Fehr says players have suggested sides meet on issues peripheral to core economics in interim, but haven't agreed to do so w @NHL yet
Also, it doesn't seem like Fehr is too interested in salary cap:

Quote:
Chris Botta ‏@ChrisBottaNHL
Fehr reminds again of his view that only the salary cap-less and Industry Growth funded MLB has labor stability.

The owners asked to recess the talks, not the players.

Quote:
Chris Botta ‏@ChrisBottaNHL
Fehr: the owners elected to recess negotiations, not the union. He hopes he'll hear from Bettman soon about meeting again.

Some optimism.

Bettman is essentially calling Fehr a liar.

Quote:
Michael Russo ‏@Russostrib
Bettman says he didn't decide to recess talks, Fehr says he did. #LOCKOUT
Quote:
Rob Rossi ‏@RobRossi_Trib
Bettman says he is worried about 'atmospherics... Basically we got stonewalled today.' #nhl #nhlpa
Bettman wants a longer deal.

Quote:
Chris Botta ‏@ChrisBottaNHL
Bettman basically scoffs at NHLPA idea of 3-year plus one term CBA. Says NHL wants more. Have proposed 6. @SBJSBD
Dreger gives his 2 cents.

Quote:
Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger
As ominous as things may seem, the real negotiating won't start for either the NHL or PA until or around Sept 10.
Quote:
Michael Grange ‏@michaelgrange
Bettman -- once we get past sept 15th the dynamic changes, there is damage to the business; it changes negotiations #NHL #NHLPA

A shot at Fehr and NHLPA?

This is such a ****ing joke and incredibly frustrating. Things will speed up come 9/15, I hope. But they show such a lack of desire to get a deal done it's infuriating.

Fans need to send a message, it will never work, ever, and that's a shame.

Ok, so this is the first real bad news. Let's see what happens over the next few days.

My big question - did the NHLPA come with a second proposal this time or not?

Seems they came with a revision to their initial proposal, rather than a response to the NHL's proposal.

Bettman says they made a "substantial offer", but the players weren't "budging".

Would be naive to think the process of writing a new CBA could be achieved without ugly days like this. Was bound to happen eventually

I believe this is your answer:

Quote:
Pat Leonard ‏@NYDNRangers
Gary Bettman says the league was "stonewalled" by the players today. Said there response wasn't even a proposal on the core issues

Contract negotiations have good and bad days. Some days you have breakthroughs, others you're just spinning your tires. Sounds like this was a bad day. I wouldn't necessarily panic because of it.

Well, that's not what you're looking for. I was hoping we had a framework both sides could work off of.

We're likely going to lose the holiday weekend now. Let's see what happens next week. We need one side or the other to move closer to the other's framework even if there's still a gulf in the individual terms.

It just blows my mind the the owners and Bettman come out and say they need a reduction of player salaries, yet their handing out 6 and 7 year contracts like they're candy this offseason. It's the players fault you're handing out these ridiculous contracts? Look in the mirror. The problem is with the hypocrite owners and GMs.

If you want an to reduce players salaries, here's a radical idea: don't give out stupid, long term contracts in the first place!

I don't think you'll find a statement by Bettman or any owner that blames the players for their salaries.

Its economics' fault.
