Paul Martin was one of the steadier defenseman in the 1st round exit of the Pens
Flyers' fans and Pens fans alike are cracking up at this. After the first game Laviolette had his troops dumping the puck on Martin's side every single zone entrance he was on the ice because he kept giving it up over and over. The only thing that threw a wrench into this strategy was sitting Martin's ass in the press box.
Paul Martin was one of the steadier defenseman in the 1st round exit of the Pens, and prior to this season is most definitely worth the money(and based on his last 20 games, he still is). . .
you must be joking...Pens fans hate Martin at his salary...
If my team was a goaltender away from being a cup contender(Chicago comes to mind) I wouldn't lose a bit of sleep about paying just over 5 million a year for Luongo. The trade assets needed to acquire him might, but the salary, or even the length of the contract wouldn't. I'd also take Marty Havlat at his salary. He's a great player, and isn't really making an insane amount. I don't agree with quite a bit on this list.
That's kind of unfair for ales hemsky considering he hasn't played a year under that contract and money. He was making 4 mil, his new contract starts this year
This off season has been his only healthy one. Hes usually doing rehab but actually played in the worlds! And found a hidden goal scoring touch
Don't think Pitkänen and Ehrhoff belong on this list. Sure, Ehrhoff's got 9 years left on his contract, which could end up biting the Sabres in the a, but considering the kind of contracts that's been thrown around to UFA first pairing d-men lately, it's not nearly as bad as it looks.
We all need a little bit of perspective here. The Article was written by a guy who has a bachalor of Translation... He is writting currently only for online fan websites. That hockey one, and some baseball one. The guy is a hack as we can all tell by the piss pour list. After this season how could Bryz not make it?
Eh, if the cap keeps going up, eating 4mil of dead space (if he becomes that) really isn't much at all. Not nearly enough to significantly impede Buffalo from adding other pieces, anyway.
ETA: Also, cap floor teams will LOVE him in 5 years. They'll have pretty much zip to actually pay him, and get 4mil towards the cap.

5,3 millions for one of the top goalies in the game really isn't overpaid, especially considering the salary cap is 60+ millions.
What's nasty on Luongo's contract is the term, hence why his trade value is decreased. With a smaller term, there would be many more teams in the run to get him.
Really if you were to make a list if overpaid NHLers the list should have about 900 names on it. But I get it, it's all about relative terms.
Interesting list. Looking at the Flames ones they nailed it with Bouwmeester. I wouldn't want that loser on the Flames If his caphit was -6.68. Cammallari however I don't agree. Cammy is likely gonna be a 30 goal scorer on the Flames and 6mill for that is about the going rate. The Flames are paying Babchuk 2.5 and Stajan 3.5 and they need injuries just to get out of the pressbox. Also 5+ for Wideman has the potential to be a nightmare.
Worst contract in the league? Bouwmeester is up there but I would have to go with Erhoff. 10 MILLION IN REAL DOLLARS LAST SEASON! With a 10 million dollar defenceman these are reasonable questions to ask. Where was Erhoff in Norris trophy voting? Where was Erhoff in Hart trophy voting? That type of contract is gonna destroy the Sabres. Roy is already gone, and I say Pomminville and Stafford are close behind. The young core that the Sabres have built are not gonna be impressed by rediculous contracts for players who have never played 1 game as a Sabre. If I am a longtime Sabre, I would want out.
