Assuming its an 82 game schedule, do you think Ranger plays in the NHL next season? I think it was Loiselle who was a big part in recruiting Ranger who said he looked fast (one of my main concerns about returning from a long layoff).

Pretty sure he is only on an AHL contract with the Marlies.

1-15 is my guess. Usually lots of injuries.

No offense to him, but other than injuries, I don't see him playing very much, if at all.

I could see him sticking after a stint with the Marlies, and a call up in December or later.

Zero.

Simply because I'm not optimistic that a season even gets played at this point!

I'm pretty sure that Ranger signed an ahl contract which means he's property of the marlies and unable to play for the leafs.

Not sure that he's eligible to play for the Leafs because he only has an AHL contract

Can contracts be broken and re-designed so that Ranger can play for the Leafs (if the need is there)?

Yes, they can be. He can resign his contract and be given a new deal, at least I'm pretty sure.

But yes, with his current contract, he can't play for the leafs.

As stated by a few others, the fact that it is an AHL only contract doesn't mean anything. There is no point signing him to a different contract as he has played zero games and the NHL may not even happen. If he looked good both parties could agree on an NHL contract at any time.

Going based on the quote from Dave Poulin and my own reading between the lines.

Quote:
He has been out of the game for personal reasons and sees an opportunity to get back into it and knows the environment we have created here and he feels this is an excellent opportunity for him," said Dave Poulin, the Leafs' vice-president of hockey operations. "This kid can play. I watched him skate yesterday and wow, he can fly"
I think the eventual goal is to get him back to the NHL and with the Leafs. He has everything a modern prototypical defenseman needs to have. Size, Speed, Hockey sense.

So my prediction is he'll play with the Marlies until U.S thanksgiving(when the CBA gets sorted) then signs a NHL contract and be at the shorted training camp in December.

When and If injuries come into play. Even then it's unlikely due to players like blacker, and holzer who are probably sniffing for a spot as well.

So what's the story, can he play for the Leafs or does he have to clear re-entry waivers?

He's not signed to an NHL contract, so he can't play in the NHL. If he signs a NHL deal, then the new terms will determine whether he has to go through re-entry waivers.

Not even possible. The league will tease us by giving us 4th overall while a struggling hockey market gets it. Also just to piss us off Ottawa picks 2nd Montreal picks 3rd and Boston picks 4th

So even when we don't trade them, Boston still gets our picks? If that's how Bettman wants to run things, I will not be tuning in...
