This is the Ottawa board. People are going to ***** and moan about most teams not names the Ottawa Senators.

Back on topic though. Will there be a winter classic this year? I think that the first game of the season probably will be the Classic.

There's no CBA, salary caps etc in soccer outside of the MLS. So there's nothing to strike over.
That's part of the problem with the EPL, there's next to no parity, and money talks. Even the contracts are re-newed when a player changes team. The top clubs just poach the better talent.

Landeskog is named Colorado's captain, becomes youngest captain in league history. Boy do I wish we had gotten him

Wow that's pretty shocking about Landeskog, especially with Duchene and Statsny around.
I think they made the right choice though. Who cares if he's young, he's gonna be a great captain for a long time.

Didn't we inquire about trading up for the 2nd overall pick lat year, and Colorado asked for Rundblad?

In hindsight would anyone make that trade today? Or a consequental trade?

Rundblad + Zibanejad for Landeskog

or would you be willing to not have

Turris + Zibanejad for Landeskog?

We probably would have still ended up with Turris, but it likely would have cost us our 1st Round Pick instead of Rundblad.

So the NHL has offered a 50-50 split of HRR, they've removed their plans to change up rules on player contracts (ELCs/FA etc), and they've offered a protection plan so that players don't have a salary rollback (instead, the year-to-year salaries are redistributed to be less frontloaded). NHL offer was 6+ years and requires a full 82 game sched for this season, starting Nov 2.

PA has a conference between Execs and the player negotiating committee tonight at 5pm. Expected to announce if they accept or reject the offer tomorrow.

If they don't accept the PA will lose a ton of fan support.

Revenue sharing would be at or near 200 million dollars

Contract Lengths would be [capped at] 5 years.

Arbitration would still exist

The only core issue that remains intact from previous NHL offers is the length on contracts (on all new deals)
Copied from BoH board. Contract concessions may not have been made after all.

Looks like an extra $50M Revenue Sharing (or more), + 1 more year on ELCs, which makes UFA status one year later. Prospective contracts capped at 5 years.

Oh man, if that goes through, there are going to be a billion injuries this season as teams try to play 5 games a week.

It's less than a month missed.

It just means that instead of each week being half 3 game weeks, there will be some 4 game weeks.

Ahh I see what the problem was! Bettman just wanted to wait for Condra to sign elsewhere.

I see what you did there.

It's the start of the end - good news, we will have hockey by November.

The big thing here is that at 82 games the players get their full salary - so even if they have to take a little less or defer some to following years, it is better than only taking 80% of your full salary.

It's still more games in a lesser amount of time. There will be more injuries.

good for teams like us who have great depth - these shortened seasons always favour young teams with lots of depth

It is 1 extra game every 5 weeks per team, not a big difference.

Likely people being jealous of all their high draft picks.
