I have not heard anything about the guy but he still remains a RFA and I figured Dallas would have him locked up by now. What is going on with him? Is it more or less just they don't want to lock him up with a lockout looming or is the contract talks just gone sour?

he is the face of the franchise, Dallas will resign him for big money. The question is will it be a bridge contract or a long term one

Hello new CBA and possible contract restructuring and cap reductions, how are you today?

Be easy good sir. Everyone's waiting for some CBA certainty ATM. My guess is when these players get signed there's a good deal on the table and hockey will be back shortly there after.

Both sides have stated they'll wait until after the new CBA. Same thing as Subban, Carlson, etc.

Awesome job at jumping to conclusions.

Where did anyone jump to conclusions? The OP asked, "Is it more or less just they don't want to lock him up with a lockout looming or is the contract talks just gone sour?". I dont see how that is jumping to conclusions-- just asking why a deal has not been made yet.

i can see the owners hoping to hold off, but i'd think it's in Benn's best interest to sign now. Wouldn't surprise me if we see a flury of signings leading up to the 15th.....

I would expect they would basically hand a blank cheque to Benn, so I would forsee no problems in resigning him.

If they are waiting for a new CBA, to see what the new regulations are, I would guess that is because Benn is being an extremely team-first guy.

The reason I say this, is because there are 2 main outcomes of the new CBA in regards to salary structure and the salary cap, that I can see.

The first is that it stays more or less the same.

The second is that there's a drastic rollback in the salary cap ceiling, but the current salaries and cap hits stay on the books as they are currently.

If the second outcome is likely, that would mean Benn is waiting to see if there's a rollback, and would subsequently take a much lower salary on his next contract, which he will sign after the new cba.

If this is the case, props to Benn.

Some mighty big RFA's that remain unsigned and IMO Benn is the cream of that crop. It'll be interesting to see what he signs for when he finally does ink a deal.

Benn must be reading these boards and is starting to believe he a top 10 player in the league. The way some people talk about him he should be making 7mill a year.

Seriously? Benn is barely 2 years older than Kane. They came into the league the same year and Benn has outperformed Kane in points every year (Benn also has 34 more points than Kane in only 8 more games played).

So we're supposed to throw in one of our best prospects too? I'll pass.

Not yet. There are a few RFAs holding out around the league still. Benn, Ennis, Carlson, Kane, ROR...
