Heard they had so many kids @ both their june and august camp because Vered doesnt want to lose money this year . they charged over $250 @ june camp and charged over $150 for main camp . It could cost all the players that attended both camps almost $1500 to play .
The "main" camp that Nepean runs is not a rip-off. For $150 you get 4 scrimages, sweater and a exhibition game, plus at least one interview. If Bobby Orr comes out of no where and blows the place up, he will make the team. Most of these players will play JRB or Midget or back to USA team and will benefit from the experience and the exposure. Ya, is it what we old guys would call a main camp, no, but get with the times. Huge market demand for pre-tryout camps, hockey is expensive. Nepean starts this camp real early, it works for the team (raises money & they get a good look at a lot players), and works for the players (ice time value, exhb. game, etc.).
I sarcastically refered to Nepean's "main" camp in a previous post, not because I thought it was a rip-off, just to point out it is not what we old timers would call a "main" camp. I think it makes marketing/financial/Hockey sense to run it the way they do. By the way, my son was in it last year, as a parent i did'nt feel ripped off.

I agree 100%. Why should Jr A be different than any other amateur level. Look at the cost vs what you get to try out a AAA or even AA, and you will quickly see that their is value to all involved with these camps. If having so many kids attend a "main camp" offends your hockey sense, too bad.
What's going on in Colt land , Haffner, Primeau,Rath Twins and Phillps. All walk away from team/Coach/GM
Number of Vets leaving is growing, any insight gentlemen ??
Primeau is a good hard working level headed kid, that can play big minutes in this league !!
Was at Pembroke game last night...did not disapoint at all.....
Kings looked good...small...but some good skill level...sk trade for drouin and harper seems to be working out already....
CP was missing some guys not sure why...maciag..seatter...dufour ( new recruite )...Kujava their number one goalie.....would have been nice to see Kujava....
Both teams look pretty good....but my kings were better!

Hafner signed on to play with Western Michigan, Primeau wanted to be in the top 6 (good skater but offensively challenged , very good 3rd liner, defensive player) Rath's didn't live up to their billing, got hurt a lot. Phillips I don't know?
Thank you for the Primeau info and you are correct about the Rath twins
This isn't high school hockey !!!
Phillips was from Florida, maybe found a closer spot.
Cory Durocher back in Gloucester ? Was with Soo last year, awaiting a trade? Seems to be having an impact on game today 2 goals so far in game against Ottawa ( ex game of course).

That would make a big difference for gloucester...he could be among league leaders in points without much help

It would quickly fill the hole left by McMurtry. Unfortunately for the Rangers, I don't think he will stick in the CCHL very long. Don't think the Florida Panthers want him playing in Jr A for his 20 year old season.
Also agree, can't read a lot into the pre-season especially the first couple. Most teams are just giving draft picks and prospects a promised exhibition game. Can't gauge much as the hockey is not even at a Junior C level (no disrespect to Jr C). As we get closer to showcase teams then start experimenting with line and D combinations in preparation for the Showcase week-end (Sept 7-9).
As for predictions - very tough, no clear cut favourite - every team has their strengths and weaknesses:
My early season predictions. Noting of course that key players must stay healthy and that PG and SK will make upgrades as the season progresses such that they hit the playoffs as world beatters.
Nepean - too much scoring and strong in net so wins should pile up
Pembroke - new goalie is the real deal and excellent depth. Team play is outstanding
Cornwall - Top line will score and are good throughout with better than avg special teams
CP - Need injured goalie to start and production from vets.
Hawksbury - will hack and chop their way to the top four with Bussey and Anderson leading
Smiths Falls - D a little worrisome but goaltending and top four are legit
Kemptville - surprise this high but pieces seem for real - need to beat teams below.
Cumberland - toughest team up front (Rodier and Martin) but back end needs help.
Kanata - need to keep the (right) vets but perhaps enough D to keep them in games
Brockville - a work in progress now with current crop perhaps overated by management
Ottawa - not much returning here (Robillard and ?)
Gloucester - even if Durocher was here all year they won't get out of the basement
Kemptville, Cumberland, Kanata and Brockville will fight for the last couple playoff spots and their order was tougher to call this early.
These are my September 1st comments - others are welcome. This is what the forum is about!
Yet another tough night for CP. Naysayers about Kings , they will be very competitive I'd think. Gloucester ..not so much.
Naysayers? No one was counting Pemby out? Kings will push Nepean for tops in the league!
These two teams - could include Cornwall here too - move the puck better than everyone else. This is the reason behind their success (in addition to overall talent level).
Others teams like CP and S.Falls have talent but can't put two or three passes together so it gets wasted and translates to dump and chase hockey or tossing pucks on net and hoping for the best.
The opening period had Trenton on their heels though they did score on a beautiful set passing play on the PP. The prettiest goal, IMO, was the tip in by Row on the PK. The Trenton d-man appeared to be upset with himself on that goal and took an uncalled for penalty that then resulted in Kemptville scoring a PP goal and which turned out to be the winning goal. In the 3rd period, it appeared that Trenton found a higher gear. They were pressing & forcing Kemptville’s defence to be scrambling to catch up.
A couple of misconducts involving equipment violations. When the penalty was assessed to the Trenton player, I noticed a coach motioning to the player’s mouthpiece. Hopefully, another poster can explain the ins & outs of this penalty.
Just noticed Chris King has not played any games for Grads, did he sign with Gatineau?
If this is true, Looks like Sheldon got the better half in the PLK/Grads deal, as Connor Currie appears to have signed with the PEI Rocket in the Q, and has not reported to Grads camp.
Any news on Kevin Tanseys return to college hockey, after recovering from his injuries?
Clarkson has reported that Tansey will miss the first semester due to injuries sufferred during an assaault on July 31st which occured in Ottawa. He has cracked ribs, a shoulded injury, and sufferred a concussion.
He played in every game last year and I believe he had nine points.

Are you serious....was at both games cp..versus kings...cp d is best in league by a long shot...puck movement is very good....but forwards did not score or take pucks to net...but pembroke played very well defensivley...

New to the ranks, was in discussion the other day. What constitutes reasonable compensation for a Teir II player????
Billets $100/week, $ 500/month ?? Gas money for commuting to games and practices $ .50/ kilometre or tank of fuel per week?? Curious?
Hear of guys getting considerable remuneration to play, not interested in that just your average hard working players. My thought was you get gear, sticks, billets, and break even on gas money??

Your welcome to your opinion... but it isn't mine.
CP lost Darou and Hannah on defence, didn't replace them with anyone noteworthy (please don't try and convince us Smith or Formica are the next coming!), came fourth last year with essentially better D (after being ranked nationally in the top 10 early in the year), haven't won a playoff round (shockingly fell apart from January on and literally stunk in the playoffs while showing a lack of toughness) and suddenly THIS YEAR essentially the "RETURNEES" are now the best D in the league!?!
You come to Nepean and your D pass the puck backwards/between themselves while open fowards skate circles/force your F's to slow in the neutral zone and even stop at the far blueline/ and then to top it off fire the puck down the ice three feet behind an open forward for an icing. .... that is not good puck movement or good D my friend. This leads to the dump and chase hockey being taught and which I see. This is what I see. No offence intended. Just what I see and perhaps why your F's can't get the puck to the net as YOU suggested.
Last point: Your exhibition games have shown that Cornwall AND Pemby (one goal against in two games against you including a shutout) are two teams whom ALREADY have better passing/overall D than you?!? Not to mention league champion Nepean!

First off...if you read my posts I am a kings fan....i did not watch the raiders play CP once...nor care to watch the raiders play....I am a hockey fan....so thank you for the insight on your great hockey tips....but looking at the box score...Smith scored two goals in the Neapean game....you forgot to mention that....AS ONCE AGAIN....grabbers has his head up his *&^%&....
CP got my kings ready for the Stallions and hammered them pretty good....but 5 and 0 means nothing in ex games......
Grabbers....hopefully this year you will read the box scores before you post your Pierre McGuire like insight......
