The reason I say this, is because there are 2 main outcomes of the new CBA in regards to salary structure and the salary cap, that I can see.

The first is that it stays more or less the same.

The second is that there's a drastic rollback in the salary cap ceiling, but the current salaries and cap hits stay on the books as they are currently.

If the second outcome is likely, that would mean Benn is waiting to see if there's a rollback, and would subsequently take a much lower salary on his next contract, which he will sign after the new cba.

If this is the case, props to Benn.

Well, with a blank cheque, he can just write whatever number in there.

I'd like to see Benn sign a nice 3-year bridge deal worth $4.5 million per year. He will probably get $6 million over 6 years like Eberle though.

I am a big fan of Jamie Benn. He can do it all. Had him on my fantasy team for the past two years, so I've watched a lot of him just out of interest. There is something about him that reminds me of old school 90s hockey even though he seems to fit in just fine in the post-lockout style.

Why would any player want to wait until after the CBA? The time to cash in is now!

Or if you are concerned about a rollbacks/escrow you can take your chances with a big money bridge contract once things are settled?

Yeah, I think Dallas waits to sign Benn until after the CBA is settled. I think he gets a 5 year contract at 5.5 million per season.

As an Edmonton fan I can say that I'd love to have him on our team, the guy is a tremendous talent. As for the whole "honor" bit, not sure if the poster is joking or not, but I heard somewhere that Benn said that he wouldn't want to deal with the spotlight in Canada, that's the only "negative" I've ever heard of Benn.

Watch out for the sisters. I've heard they've taken a liking to Andy.

Not sure about that, but I think the only place in Canada he'd want to play is Vancouver.

I heard he isn't signing in order to force a trade to the Canucks.

Yeah, they have tonnes of space but is their owner going to spend it? To think, he could've ended up owning the Canucks.

This is very true, however, it is most likely not for lack of desire on Benn's part that a contract hasn't been signed, and most likely won't be signed before a new CBA. If the Stars don't offer him a long-term contract (at least not one with decent money), and I highly doubt they have as the Stars are usually pretty firm to their bridge contract philosophy, then it doesn't matter if Benn wanted to sign a contract before the new CBA or not cause there is no contract to sign.

Yes Benn knows the time is now to sign a long-term contract and get his money, but GMJN & co. have seen too many of those long-term contracts blow up in GMs faces. GMJN also knows that the new CBA will could possibly create a more favorable environment for the Stars to get their bridge contract. There isn't really anything Benn can do about it.

So much fail in this post.

Yes, he will. He's said he'll be willing to go to the cap if necessary, but we won't need to do that for a while.

And he didn't really have a choice with the Canucks and how that went down.

What are you even talking about? You do realize Dallas had a self-imposed cap when Gaglardi didn't own the team right. Look at this off season, Jagr, Whitney, Roy (who will get a new sizable contract), Rome, etc.

Gaglardi is willing to spend.

To Vancouver:
Benn

To Dallas:
Kassian
Tanev
Gaunce
1st 2013(Late First)

This trade is assuming Benn agrees before the trade that he will sign with the caunucks. This would be fair for a guy that will put up around 70 points a season.

Completely ignoring the fact that the value here isnt even close, who plays center for the Stars on opening night(if the season starts on time)

I know. Then Nieuwendyk can just match it, thank the team that offered it to him, and we can move on.
