Hey guys hope all is well. I was thinking maybe next season we can change the way our league works. I feel like we dont actually do enough to make it interesting.
Maybe we can turn it into a CAP league or something. I think it would be a lot of fun. let me know your thoughts.

this is what i am talking about i posted this a few days ago and no one even cares to reply.
This league was great a few seasons ago but it is getting stale. No trades etc. its just draft then walk away lol
Well, I'm pretty happy with my 2nd place efforts so far, but I'd be game to mix things up.
If you want more trades, I think you need to cap the amount of waiver wire transactions. Right now they're unlimited or so high, so why trade when I can just add and drop guys. A cap league would be interesting.

that is a good point actually. I think a cap league would be cool. I am not sure if yahoo allows cap leagues ?
I know this is way early. Also might be futile since a hockey season is in jeopardy.
However i spoke about this last season. I want to make our league More Active. THe last few seasons were were lucky if there was even a trade during the season. I think we may of had one trade in 3 seasons.
I feel like the league is just draft day then minor tweaks to ones team. it gets stale very fast.
At some point last season i sad to one or two people and i might have posted something as well not sure. what if we made it a CAP League. I think it would make things more interactive. Hopefully spark some trades and actually thinking ?
maybe make it a keeper league or something. I just feel like something needs to spice things up. More teams Division etc. any ideas from current managers welcome

A keeper league could be fun. A cap league would be good as well. I'm up for changes if the group wants.
I still thing the unlimited waiver pickups is the reason there is limited trade activity. If that was capped more, there would be more trades. I think some folks had like 25 or 30 waiver moves last year. If you only had say 10 moves all year, there would probably be more trading activity.

Checking the transaction page last year, we had 5 trades:
1. Sedin & Skinner for Pacioretty & Staal (this exact trade happened 3 different times according to yahoo)
2. Datsyuk, Havlat, Brodeur for Yandle, Vrbata, Bryz
3. Fleury for Eriksson
4. Krejci & Bryz for Lecavalier & Crawford
5. Kovalchuk, Skinner, Luongo for Hemsky, Grabo, Jimmy Howard
I'd love a keeper league (because it means I get to keep Stamkos) but I'm not sure about cap numbers or restricting the number of waiver pickups. Only having 10 waiver pickups all season would be dreadful, but I wouldn't be opposed to, say, a maximum of 4-5 player adds per week with unlimited waiver pickups all season long.
One definite way to up interest in the league would be if everyone threw in $10-$20 and make it a pay league, with 1st and 2nd place getting paid and 3rd getting his money back. Yahoo has (in fantasy football at least) a system where every manager pays with their credit card separately, so there's no need to drive around Long Island collecting money from a bunch of internet Islanders fans. Then again, making it a pay league may drive some people away.

I am up for anything. However if we did do keeper i would suggest a Roster reset. New draft
I kind of like the cap league idea myself. The way it works out now is you get 2 add/drops a week, which I thought wasent a lot, but we can cut that in half? what about contracting roster spots? limiting IR spots?

Hey puck. look into it but i did not see a option for Cap in yahoo. COrrect me if i am wrong.

nope .. your right. Its not offered. If we want to stay with yahoo, we need to figure something else out. What if we mandated x amount of trades per year?!?!?!

That's the whole point re: the waivers. It will force more trades due to the limited ability to pick up and drop so many players.
2 add/drops a week is like 50+ moves. That's too many, imo, if you want to tighten things up. Maybe 20 or 25? It would force people to think more about what they're doing and make trades for pieces they're mutually missing.
Having one or two keepers would be fine, whether we re-draft or not.
As for the cap league, we could still use yahoo but keep track of the salaries manually. We use real salaries from cap geek and keep track of them in a google docs spreadsheet. Should be pretty easy to set up / maintain. A bit of a pain, but unless someone knows of a good online cap league, it could work.
Also, if we're doing keepers, we could have the ability to trade picks...

I would not want force someone to trade because they have not made one. I would do keeper or switch from Yahoo ?
im down for either, but will not be able to / want to run a different league. I say we try to tweak what we have here by limiting the add drops to maybe 20 per season and maybe contracting roster spots (less IR?). thoughts?

Can we make it a keeper with yahoo ?
I dont think those changes would do much

I just think the point of any fantasy sport is to scour the waiver wire and take chances with free agents... I feel limiting it to 20 or 25 would hurt the league because there would be even less activity.
I mean, you need at least 15 player adds just to keep your team strong from guys going on IR... so you're allowed 5 non-injury adds for the entire season?
If people want more trades to happen, work other teams, send proposals out to everyone, let people know who is on your trading block and what position you're looking to improve. I'm in a fantasy baseball league that allows 3 player adds a week (but unlimited on the season) and it has the intended effect everyone is looking for - people don't pick up a zillion players, but you're still limited enough to not go crazy (I missed out on picking up Mike Trout because I had already grabbed Matt Joyce... fail).
I did a league a couple years back that was real fun - essentially the positions were the exact same you'd see on a hockey team any given night:
C, C, C, C
LW, LW, LW, LW
RW, RW, RW, RW
D, D, D, D, D, D
G, G
That was fun because you were much more likely to take risks on your 4th winger and 6th defenseman.
