My guess is they planned to give it to him or Radar when Duke retired but if what they are saying is true and Duke stepped down willingly then they just decided to jump the gun and go ahead with it instead of giving it to someone else for a year or two as a placeholder.
Aren't EJ and Landeskog really close? I can't see an issue there. Stastny doesn't strike me as a guy who want's the C and already said well deserved on twitter. If Duchene thinks he should have been the Captain then he really is the most immature player on the team. Only one I could see being down is O'Reilly, but he's such a team player that I can't see it being an issue.
I dont like it when you name your youngster player captain just cause he is your future star or best player bla bla..
But in this case, I really think that he is the most suitable leader. Despite his age.
That's just one of the many things that make him a special player, hes been named captain at an early age at every level and excelled. I always thought O'Reilly put to much pressure on himself without the C, I could only imagine how much pressure he would put on himself with it.
Like another poster said, he was pretty much born with a C on his chest. I was wondering if they might do this in the case that he would be captain next year, because he falls in line with a young captain like Toews.
I think Crosby was kind of a "Star player" move but guys like Toews and Landeskog actually deserve to be among the youngest captains in NHL history.
